So how exactly does this game Taboo work? First you split up into two teams and have everyone sitting down alternating in a circle. The giver draws a card from a pile of cards. This card has a word on it. The goal of the giver is to try to get the other player(s) on their team to guess the word in as little time as possible, as they are on the clock. However, there are also a number of words which the giver cannot say, these are the taboo. If a giver says a word they are not allowed to say while trying to get their teammates to guess the main word, the censor from the opposing team presses the buzzer. The giver must then give up on the word they were trying to get their teammates to guess and move onto the next word.
In the game Taboo the purpose is to try to get your teammates to guess as many words as possible in the allotted amount of time. Givers can only use speech clues: they are not allowed to make hand motions, gestures or make sounds to get their teammates to guess, only words. When your time is up, play moves onto the next team. Each time it is your team’s turn to guess, the person who is the giver alternates. Once you have finished all the rounds (this is determined before the game starts), whoever has the most points at the end wins.
There are many different strategies to use while playing Taboo, and part of the fun is in trying to come up with the best way to get your teammates to guess the word given without violating any of the rules.
