When you are using the internet you are connect with lots of people all over the world, and thus you are going to need a way to protect yourself from everyone looking at your information and having access to your computer. Online safety and firewalls go hand and hand whenever you are using the internet and that is why it is a must for your computer to have one. This is the best way to keep people from being able to have access to all your stuff that is on your computer. Safety is a must now-a-days, and firewalls are the best way to stay safe.

If you have a fairly new computer then you have probably seen th words firewall somewhere. This is because most operating systems come with their own firewalls to help keep you safe while online. Safety and firewalls are one in the same, and this is because of what firewalls do. A firewall is a way to choose who has access to your network by approving or denying their actively on your computer. You have more than likely heard of cookies and firewalls. Online cookies are the things that web sites save to your computer so they can remember all your personal things when you go back to that site. Have you ever been to a web site, and when you got there you already had your screen name in the log in box? Well, not everyone sees your name there, those are just the cookies that the web site saved to your computer, and firewalls can approve or deny this. You can change the level of protection when using your computer to either allow more access to your computer or allow none. Of course, there are positive things and negative things about both settings.

When you think of the internet and firewalls, look at it like this. Pretend the firewall is a gate. Your home and you are on the other side, and the world is on the other. Now, you are not going to want to stop everyone from get into your gate, but at the same time you are going to want to stop some people from getting in. Now, pretend you can set your gate to open to a certain selection of people, and boom, you have a firewall. In a nut shell that is how it all works. You set the level of protect you want out of your firewall. Set it to high and no cookies at all are going to be able to save to your computer and you will not be able to do many things online (like playing games and listening to music). Set your firewall to low and then everyone is going to be able to get into your computer. At first, it will be fine, but one day a hacker is going to get you and then you are going to be between a rock and a hard spot. This is why setting your safety and firewalls in the recommended spot is great. Your computer will put the firewall where it thinks it should be. If you do not like these sites then you should go in and change it. Just do not do one extreme to the other. By that I mean do not either block everything or block nothing, it really should be set some place in the middle of all that.

Safety and firewalls are something you need to pay close attention to. This is not something to take lightly, however, you should not worry yourself to death about it either. It is just like they use to say in those old info commercials, “Just set it, and forget it.” Firewalls are something that you need to have on your computer to make sure everything goes smoothly online. Sometimes you will hear computer pros complain about firewalls, but they really are something that you have to have now-a-days. Online safety and firewalls are something that need each other to be complete, so you really cannot have one with out the other. Well, I guess you could have a firewall without the online part, but that really would not do you any good now would it?
