Online Dating At Bulletin Board

Many new users to the internet may have never heard of the bulletin board system, however, in a way it is still being used today. Of course, it is not called bulletin board anymore, it is mostly referred to as online forums. Although bulletin board is a little different than a forum, they mostly work in the same way and some people are starting to use that for online dating. At bulletin board you are able to communicate with other users and send pictures which makes it perfect for online dating, or use to make it perfect.

At bulletin board you are able to chat with groups of people at a time. You are also able to leave a lot more than just text post. Bulletin board system was one of the first places that allowed people to share pictures and other programs that you could download right off bulletin board. The bulletin board system reached its peak back between the 1980's and 1990's. During this time it would be the perfect place for online dating. In fact, at that time, it may have been the only good place for online dating. Mostly because it was very hard to share photos across the internet at that time, but at bulletin board it was easy. Let's face it, if you are going to date a girl you at least want to see what she looks like. This social phenomenon was slowly become the standard for online dating, which is now a billion dollar market. So what happened to the bulletin board system that would stop such a big hit? The places that offered bulletin board got greedy.

When it started, members at bulletin board got to use this service free of charge. Of course, that soon came to an end when bulletin board started charging a fee to use this system. You may be saying, “Other online dating sites charge a fee, why was this so much different?” The answer is simple, bulletin board is not an online dating site. Sure some of the members at bulletin board where using it like that, but overall that was not why it was made. Bulletin board works much like a forum than a dating site, and as we all know, most forums are free. It makes if very hard to keep a service up and running when other people are offering it for free. At that point in time, most used this system as a hobby. When they started charging a fee, it became an expensive hobby. Had they kept if free, it may have been able to stand up against the forums of today. Had that been the case, I still do not think that many people would use bulletin board as a way for online dating. I feel this way because forums work much the same way as bulletin boards and not that many people use forums in that fashion.

The people who started out at bulletin board have moved on to find other forums. It would be very hard to find online bulletin boards now (because most people just refer to them as online forums). If you are looking to getting back into this long forgot form of communication, then you are a little to late. What little bulletin boards remained died out with the end of the 90's. If you are lucky you may still find one floating out there, but I would not hold my breath. If you are looking to get into online dating I would try matchmaking sites. Those places offer the tools you need to find the perfect person for you, and best of all they have them all put together on one site. However, we will never forget the social phenomenon that was bulletin board, for it open the door to online forums and possibly online dating. Never forget your roots. As the internet grows it changes and if sites do not change with them, they get left behind. That is okay, because that opens the door for better, more improved sites.
