Her music is entrancing and eclectic, and spans the range from pop funk to trance rap beautifully.
I was drawn to Ocean's music immediately, having heard her riveting song, Voodoo Man, and then found her film noir music video of Love-Junkie, which is a powerful merge of metal and rap, with street vibe and musical integrity far beyond the usual chick music.
As i wandered through Ocean's first CD, Mermaid Music, I began to realize that Ocean's music talents are immense, and that her voice, with it's wide range of octaves and tones, is really one of the great ones.
More - I realized that Ocean's songs all have not only a haunting quality, with unforgettable hooks, but that they are all expertly constructed and that each is equally at home in several genres.
Some of Ocean's songs would be comfortable on rap stations, some on beach rock, some on jazz or smooth stations, and many are cross-over pop hits.
The thing that really inspired me is that Ocean is a vegan who stands up for animals. An ethical vegan, she also volunteers for wildlife rescue and promotes veganism - even creating concerts and songs around her love for animals.
Ocean's new CD, Ocean, will be out in the early Spring of 2006, and I understand that she's working on several other recordings right now.
The thing that i keep going back in my mind to is Ocean's voice - the quality of her singing is so mesmerizing that it gives her that rare distinction among musical artists - a completely unique voice.
