Oak Lawn, Illinois Is Filled With Parks And Recreation For The Whole Family.

Oak Lawn, Illinois has numerous family activities and recreational facilities to enjoy. This Southwest Suburb of Chicago offers 22 parks to the public. These parks offer a little bit of everything and something for everyone. There are lots of safe and exciting activities for tots to adults to enjoy and you can find them all in one city. With park and recreation centers like you can find in Oak Lawn you don't have to look any further.

Not only does Oak Lawn, Illinois share Centennial Park with Orland Park, it has its own extensive park system. Within this park system you will find fun and healthy activities for the whole family no matter how old. There are playgrounds, walking paths, baseball fields, basketball, volleyball, and tennis courts. You will also find outdoor swimming pools, a toddler park and fitness centers. This park system also includes a golf course, a children’s museum and an ice arena.


Stoney Creek Golf Course was opened in Oak Lawn, Illinois in 1982. It not only has a 65-par, 18-hole golf course it also offers activities for the whole family. Within these grounds you will find a miniature golf course, bocce ball courts and horse shoe pits for anyone in your group who is not particularly fond of golfing. There are also banquet and dining facilities. For those who are serious about golf and improving their game they also offer a pro-shop, PGA instruction and a driving range with 44 stations to practice your long drives. Not many golf courses offer so much for the family. This alone is a good reason to visit Oak Lawn, IL.


The Children’s Museum in Oak Lawn, Illinois is a unique place to visit. It is designed for the enjoyment and education of children between the ages of two years of age and ten years of age. The facility is open year round so you can bring your child to visit anytime. The museum offers eight interactive exhibits. These exhibits include puppet theaters, a market for the children, a water table and periscopes. The museum also offers an “art cart”. The “art cart” gives children the opportunity to make and fly their own kites. Each week they feature art activities with different themes. During the summer there is also an outdoor playground and a nearby lake where children can fish. Fishing is provided as a catch and release program. With all these activities available you can not only enjoy watching your children express themselves and explore their world you can also help them participate.


The Ice Arena in Oak Lawn, Illinois is also open all year round. It does not just offer the opportunity for people to play hockey or figure skate there is so much more available. You can rent party rooms for special celebrations for your child or you can rent the ice rink itself. There is also a video game room, vending machines and a concession stand that offers breakfast, lunch and dinner. Obviously there is enough to do here to plan a day out with the family or your friends.


Oak Lawn, Illinois has so much to offer that it is impossible to cover it all. However, if you are looking for a place to go for a few days with your family or a group of friends you will have no trouble finding something to do. Of course like any suburb of Chicago you will be able to access the excitement of the city very easily. Oak Lawn does share its boarder with Chicago in two places making it easy access from this suburb. Though I think you will be quite satisfied with what you can find in Oak Lawn you always have the opportunity to view the sites of Chicago while visiting the area without going far to do so.
