New Years Cruises, Excellent Holiday Escape

Added: 01/23/2006

Although cruises have long been a popular form of vacation, they are increasingly considered an excellent venue for get-away holiday celebrations. New Years cruises have gained in popularity in recent years not only as a way to ring in the New Year but also as a method of recuperation from the stresses of the Christmas season. Consult your travel agent about routes and fares that will fit your wants and needs.

As "destination" holiday celebrations have become more popular in recent years so have New Years cruises. Many people seem to feel that if they have survived the Christmas holidays, a time of year always fraught with potential family blow-ups, they deserve to get away and be pampered as they ring in the New Year. Cruises fit that bill perfectly.

The Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, for instance, offers a four-day package aboard the Sovereign of the Seas leaving out of Port Canaveral, Florida and calling at Nassau and Cococay. Senior and group rates are available.

The Sovereign of the Seas is an example of the kind of luxury craft on which you might expect to book New Years cruises. The vessel can accommodate 2,800 passengers, features an atrium, and packs in all the amenities of the most posh land-based resort.

While many people think of their celebrations as lasting just for the evening of New Years, cruises invite celebrants to think outside the box and carry their festivities over in a three or four day package that will truly have them welcoming in the New Year relaxed and refreshed.

Dancing and drinking to ring in the New Year takes on new meaning on a New Year cruises when one can simply step out on deck to drink in the sight of the moon shining on the warm ocean waters. What better way to welcome in the New Year? Cruises are about renewal, fun, excitement, and potential. And that's what the New Year should be about as well.

It should also be noted that many smaller cruise lines offer single evening New Year cruises that may last anywhere from three to six hours. Such short trips may be a better choice for couples with children and family obligations. These limited excursions may take place on area lakes or rivers as well as at sea proper.

For instance, in New York City, various yacht companies offer New Years cruises around the city. Departing early in the evening, guests are treated to a gourmet meal before moving on to dancing and music either on deck or in a salon. Not only do guests never leave their city, they get to enjoy it from a unique perspective as they ring in the New Year.

Of course a New Years cruise is not just for couples. Although many cruise ships are enormous, being at sea is still a fairly limited and intimate environment. People really can't get away from one another and in the convivial but somewhat forced mingling of a New Year cruise, romantic magic can happen for the single man or woman.

Whether seeking to recuperate from the strains of the Christmas holiday season with a "destination" celebration of the coming of the New Year or looking for love on the high seas, cruises are a superior vacation opportunity. They eliminate the need for exhausting travel, provide passengers with luxurious amenities and beautiful ocean vistas, and throw a heck of a New Year's Eve party.

Since a variety of packages and routes are available as well as a wide variety of fares, it is recommended that those interested in taking a New Years cruise consult a travel agent to make the arrangement that best fits their wants and needs.
