One such park in Brussels is Bois De La Cambre. Bois De La Cambre, also called Ter Kamerenbos, is one of the most known urban public parks. This is situated right on the very edge of the Sonian Forest. Bois De La Cambre is built over a sprawling 1.23 square kilometers of land. This beautiful park is situated south of Brussels-Capital and is also joined to the whole of the municipality of Brussels by means of the Louise Avenue. This very fine park is made up of a small lake with an island built in its center, which is referred to as Robinson’s Island.
Legend has it that the park was built by Edouard Keilig in 1861. A little cottage Robinson was built on Robinson Island in 1877, but it got razed down by a fire in 1991. Since the chalet is considered to be a landmark and a spot of tourist interest, it is expected to be rebuilt and opened out to the public by the year 2008. The chalet, in its new avatar, is expected to cover 300 square meters and will include a ballroom and a restaurant as well.
The Bois De La Cambre conducts many cultural events, including theatre and concerts. It also houses a nightclub and a sports complex as well. If you are interested in a game of golf or tennis, Bois De La Cambre is just the place for it. This place also has a lot of scope for fun for avid bikers, who can get hired two-wheelers from there itself.
