Bois De La Cambre
Brussels is a very picturesque city, with its locales looking like they came right out from a picture postcard! The city is filled with beautiful gardens and parks, some extremely famous for their sheer natural beauty.
One such park in Brussels is Bois De La Cambre. Bois De La Cambre, also called Ter Kamerenbos, is one of the most known urban public parks. This is situated right on the very edge of the Sonian Forest. Bois De La Cambre is built over a sprawling 1.23 square kilometers of land. This beautiful park is situated south of Brussels-Capital and is also joined to the whole of the municipality of Brussels by means of the Louise Avenue. This very fine park is made up of a small lake with an island built in its center, which is referred to as Robinson’s Island.
Legend has it that the park was built by Edouard Keilig in 1861. A little cottage Robinson was built on Robinson Island in 1877, but it got razed down by a fire in 1991. Since the chalet is considered to be a landmark and a spot of tourist interest, it is expected to be rebuilt and opened out to the public by the year 2008. The chalet, in its new avatar, is expected to cover 300 square meters and will include a ballroom and a restaurant as well.
The Bois De La Cambre conducts many cultural events, including theatre and concerts. It also houses a nightclub and a sports complex as well. If you are interested in a game of golf or tennis, Bois De La Cambre is just the place for it. This place also has a lot of scope for fun for avid bikers, who can get hired two-wheelers from there itself.
Besides, some organizations there even give lessons on how to tackle roller-blades at the Bois De La Cambre skating rink. This interesting sport pulls in many students of all age groups, keen to pick up the nitty-gritties of roller-skating.
Offering the best of all worlds, Bois De La Cambre or ‘The Wood Of Cambers’, while literally translated, is one of the best places in the world to completely relax and unwind. This place truly takes you to another planet and takes away all your worries and cares of the moment!
