The reason that angel names may not be used is that by implying imitation of the mushrikeen, who believed that Allah was the father of angels, giving angels' names to women would be haraam.

Choosing the names Muslim for children can be difficult, and so it is important to know who holds the responsibility of naming. The mother and father are chiefly responsible for the choosing of a good Muslim girls name or Muslim boys name for the child. If they cannot agree on the name, it is the father that gets the right to choose. He, though, if he wishes, may give the choice to his wife. He also has the option of drawing lots with her. Many believe that the name of a child has an effect on him. They believe that the fate of each person is set according to his or her own name. In other words, it is encouraged that you name a child a name that has belonged to someone that possessed beautiful qualities in hopes that Allah may give those qualities to the child as well.

By taking the time to follow law, and by avoiding those names that are makrooh, you will be able to put your Muslim child on the path of a good and prosperous life within your faith.
