It is one of the oldest houses which still have meetings in its original chambers. Directly across from the state house is a nearly 150 year old landmark building, the Eagle Hotel. The hotel was actually closed in 1961 but still has many memories. The hotel has had many famous presidents and other visitors and was the political center for a lot of people. There is also the Peirce Mance which was Franklin Pierces home prior to and after his presidency. There is also the Walker-Woodman House which was built for Reverend Timothy Walker. Also in the downtown area is the Phenix house which is actually the second one built after the first one burned in a fire. These are just a few places in which would be a great place to visit and learn about this area.
