Mount Remarkable located in South Australia is just such a region. Unfamiliarity with rugged terrain is quickly forgotten by the breathtaking presence of undiluted panoramas that capture and hold the attention of all who witness this natural environment. The primary locations within Mount Remarkable National Park comprise Mambray Creek, Alligator Gorge, Flinders Ranges and Melrose located at the foot of Mount Remarkable.
Following the recommended trails set out for visitors requires careful consideration with account taken of fitness, ability and the essential resources that will need to be carried. In addition visitors must follow the guidance in regard to no use of wood fires all year round with only gas or liquid fuel fires permitted for overnight treks within the park. Above all visitors should avoid deviating from the defined trails and ensure that their route and the expected time of reaching their destination be given to the park managers.
Working with the environment in order to preserve it is fundamental to any conservation exercise and Mount Remarkable is no exception. Facilities for vehicle based camping are designed to provide 21st century support without denigrating the natural appearance of the landscape. With 50+ camp sites not connected to a mains electricity supply alternative solar powered showers are installed together with flushing toilets, fresh water supply and rubbish disposal and communal fireplaces. The provision of these facilities makes Mount Remarkable a particularly user friendly environment in which to participate in an active adventure holiday. In addition the facilities provided have been designed to be suitable for disabled access.
The composition of Mount Remarkable includes the Flinders Ranges, an area possessing its own exclusive culture, legacy and raw beauty that separate it from elsewhere and identify it as a special place within the distinctive environment of Mount Remarkable. Enhancing the individuality of the Flinders Ranges is an events program that lists activities occurring in the Southern Flinders Ranges between March/April and September/October.
It is worth noting that the autumn season occurs between March/April while spring is between September/October. These periods are the recommended visitor travel & vacation periods although it remains worthwhile visiting the Park in summer visitors should wear appropriate protection in order to avoid sun burn. The fire danger season usually runs between 1 November and 31 March and during this period some walks are closed.
