The Mountains of Mourne, is a great graphite mountain range in the realm of the whole of United Kingodm. It is located in the County Down in the south east of Northern Ireland and happens to be among the most famous of the mountains on the island of Ireland. Besides the surrounding area is an area of magnificient natural beauty and is therefore suggested to be the first National Park in the Northern Ireland.
Do you think that only for these features tourists in large numbers visit these places? If you, you are utterly wrong! There is no doubt in it that the presence of the rugged, granite peaks of the Mountains of Mourne add a majestic element to the surrounding golden beaches, deep forests, and emerald fields. Even many songs have been devoted to the mountain range eulogizing its beauty! The beauty of the mountains was immortalized in one of William Percy French's songs. French, an Irish songwriter, wrote the song with a chorus of "Where the Mountains of Mourne sweep down to the sea." Besides, in the recent years, the Mountains of Mourne of the United Kingdom have been recognized in the international arena as an exclusive Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. If you ever come across the ranges you will also ascertain that the mountain ranges can boast better hiking, rock-climbing, and walking than found at any of the other Northern Ireland Mountains among whom Slieve Donard, Slieve Lamagan, and Slieve Muck are the most prominent. Slieve comes from the Irish word 'slibah' meaning mountain. This happens to be the main reason for the visits of tourists. What's more, besides visits to these majestic Ireland mountains, the tourists are also eligible to trek up to the Mourne Wall, which is nothing but a man made, dry stone wall built between the years 1904 and 1922. Why was it done? The reason behind its construction was to provide work to the jobless laborers during a period of high unemployment. The wall is 2 m high, a meter thick, and over 35 km long, and it lies across the summits of 15 of the surrounding peaks. So in this majestic atmosphere the visitors do get the fullest opportunity hike, climb, golf, fish, horseback ride, and simply soak in the superb natural views.
