Motorcycle sports - the ultimate adrenalin rush.A combination of adrenalin rush, speed, man and machines is motorcycle sports. Motorcycle sports test a rider’s skill in maneuvering the vehicle in great speeds around difficult paths and a rider’s control while traveling in great speeds. Variants of motorcycle sports are available online, much to the delight of the netizens all over the world.
The popular form of road racing in the modern times is circuit racing or racing on tarmac or on closed public roads. ‘Superbike’ racing and ‘Moto GP’ are today, the most famous motorcycle sports on a circuit. ‘Drag racing’ is another popular event, where the finishing time and speed of riders, who compete simultaneously on the same runway or track is recorded.
‘Hill climbing’ and ‘road rallies’ are chosen by the adventurous riders. In the former type of motorcycle sports, a rider exhibits his skill on the motorcycle, in scaling a rocky terrain with his bike in the shortest time possible to outwit his fellow contenders. The latter motorcycle sport involves navigation on roads, on a motorcycle and visiting checkpoints in different locations.
The motorcycles in the sport, ‘Supermoto’, travel through a track that is a mixture of road and dirt tracks and the competitors exhibit their craft by facing the hurdles and setting a record time. ‘Land speed racing’ is another variant of the motorcycle sport, where a single rider rides through a track, about 3 miles long, on a motorcycle and hits top speeds that can outdo the previous top speed records.
‘Motocross’ is an off road motorcycle racing, in which the circuits are forged to test the rider’s riding skills through sand, mud, grass and various elevated surfaces. Indoor
Motocross is called ‘Supercross’. In this sport, the jumps or elevations are numerous to increase the difficulty of a rider on a motorcycle. Motocross has other disciplines like ‘Beach cross’ that is held in the beach, ‘Snowcross’, where riders ride snowmobiles on snow and the exciting Freestyle Motocross, which is dependent on the acrobatic skills of the rider on an MX bike. ‘Hare and Hounds’ is an extended form of Motocross.
‘Enduro’ is a thrilling and adventurous kind of motorcycling event that lasts 3- 4 hours. The event consists of different stages that have to be negotiated carefully on a motorcycle and the route is off-road, mostly forest area. Each stage has to be completed in the stipulated time, failing which a penalty is enforced on the rider. World Enduro Championships take place across Europe and North America. The national and World Championships take place for several days and encompasses various stages. The shorter version of the sport is the “Short Course Enduros”.
‘Rally Raids’, another kind of motorcycle sport take place for many days, where the rider travels hundreds of miles on the motorcycle. Dakar Rally that covers Western Europe to Dakar in Senegal via Sahara desert is a classic example of Rally Raid.
Apart from these events, trials on a motorcycle are prevalent among racers. There are time and observation trials, where a rider must traverse the racing route in a stipulated time. ‘The Trial racing’ also includes ‘Indoor trials’ and ‘Long distance trials’.
‘Flat track racing’, held on speedways and fair grounds are the oldest form of American motorcycle racing. Indoor Short track racing on concrete floors and Grass track racing on surfaces made of grass are all major events in motorcycle sports.
