 Military World Games - A New Phenomenon

In the realm of the military world in the recent years, the position of the military word games deserve special mention. From the inception to this date the military world games have been celebrated with much pomp and splendor. For instance, for the year 2007, the Military World Games were held in the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad in Andhra Pradesh, in India. Some parts of the games were also held in Mumbai, and there was the participation of nearly 5000 athletes from 101 countries.
What are military world games? To be very precise, the military world games are a multi sports event organized every four years, and just one year before the Olympic Games get organized. It is in general an event that has its basis on the Olympic spirit, propagating the message of universal brotherhood through the arena of international sports. It should also be noted, since being associated with the military world, and above all to the arena of sports, the entire contest exists without the slightest hint of any political, religious and racial consideration or any sort of discrimination. In addition, it is to be noted that it should be organized in a dignified manner. It was in the year 1995 when CISM, the organizing body of the international event decided to break its tradition of organizing fifteen to twenty world championships per year. A new step was taken to introduce one international event like the military world games by gathering all its member nations. This approach was viewed for the first time during its first Military World Games in Rome from 4 to 16th September 1995. Now, why did the first Games take place? There can be one answer to this. These first Games took place regarding the celebration of the 50th anniversaries of the second world war and also to commemorate the ratification of the United nations Organization Charter. Through the organizing of those Games, CISM or the international controlling body of the military world games launched the most explicit and spectacular message of peace to the whole world. this is the message of universal brotherhood and tolerance, respect for others. Do you think there is better message in an around the globe? There is indeed no better meaningful and beautiful message of peace than the one sent to the world by the representatives of more than one hundred Armed forces. Again, with the increasing number of participants throughout the world those who had seemed to be forever divided by ideological and political barriers came together under the CISM flag in the name of friendship.
It should be taken into consideration that the first edition of the military world games and its tremendous success acted as an eye opener to the controlling body. This success, without any doubt, encouraged the Board of Directors of CISM to repeat this idea and to organize this major event every four years before the Olympic Games. Four years later in Zagreb, from the 8th to the 17th August 1999, 6734 participants coming from 82 countries have contributed to the great success of the 2nd MWG. The 3rd edition was held in Catania, Sicile (Italy), December 2003. it has come to the knowledge, that CISM confer a trust upon the organization of the Games to a city, region, or even country. But above all the games always remain under the aegis of CISM but are managed by a CISM and the bidding city. From these, it is understood by and large that a bidding city is empowered to take all necessary steps to organize the games and must work in close cooperation with, amongst others, the Nations Armed Forces, the National Olympic Committee and the National Sports Federations. Lastly it is to be noted that the responsibility to organize the Military World Games can, in principle only be granted to countries which are members or invited to become member of CISM.
