Most of us spend a lot of time at work. If a person does not include the amount of time that they spend sleeping, most of the working population will spend the majority of their time in the office. When it comes time to have an office birthday party or other office party, it is essential to organize one that not only is fun but one that is appropriate. An office party is most certainly not the type of party one would have at home; even so if a person plans in advance the office party can truly be enjoyable
The first step, if you are not the president of the company or business is to discuss with the higher-ups when and where you may hold the gathering. If they leave the decisions up to you, if the company is a small one, it may work out to have the party in a large meeting room or cafeteria. However, if it does not seem as if there will be enough elbow room, it would be best to see about renting out a facility such as a banquet room. It is imperative to budget wisely, as you do not want all of the funds to go towards the room and then leave little for entertainment and food.
No matter where the office party is held, the essentials needed are entertainment, food, drinks and decorations. Whether the office party will be held inside the place of business or in a banquet hall, decorations should be put out to make the occasion feel celebratory. Balloons are a must, as well as streamers. If the event will be catered, you will not need to worry about plates and silverware. If food will be made or brought in from a restaurant take out service, then plates, cups and silverware should be supplied in matching colors. It is best to have all of the decorations matching. Choose one color and play off of that. For example, if you choose blue, you can add a splash of white and a lighter blue; as long as the colors blend well together it will look sophisticated.
Guests will enjoy the event more is great food is supplied. If the office party will be catered, be sure to offer guests a choice of two entrees. One should be a meat plate and the other a vegetarian plate such as pasta. In the event that the office party will be held at work, the two choices are to ask volunteers to bring in various plates of food or to have food brought in. Guests may take pleasure in contributing to the event and showing off their culinary skills. It may be wise to take a poll to see how many would be interested in such a suggestion. Alternatively, provisions can be ordered and delivered.
Music should be supplied as a background. When an office party is held in a banquet hall and is for a large occasion such as a holiday event, if money allows a band or deejay can be added. Live bands, of course will be the best choice. An office party held at work can have music as well, if the space is small asking someone to offer aid in bringing in a small stereo to play CDs would be appropriate. Music should be varied to appeal to all people with some dance, light rock and maybe a touch of hip-hop.
Now the trick is to add a bit of fun to separate the party from all others. Some people will mock at the proposal of playing party games, but once they get going they will be laughing and enjoying themselves. If the office party is a small one, organized games of charades will amuse the entire group. At a banquet hall, people can be asked to separate into groups and play charades. In addition you can make entertaining bingo games; just create the boards to include funny words related to work such as office rat, cubicle claustrophobia and others that will give a good giggle. Have a fun prize to give out to the champion.
With the proper planning and a great outlook, it is not so complicated to throw a great office party. Pulled together with excellent organization, all of the guests will have a great time. The only downside is that you will be asked to host all the parties, as everyone will want to enjoy your party ideas the next time around. Take is as a compliment and shine as a host. In addition, if you are not the boss, you surely will receive high awards for a job well done.
