Lord Of The Rings - The Eternal Sensation

The Lord of the Rings trilogy directed by Peter Jackson, that caught the entire world by storm is comprised of three live action fantasy film, based on epic. It includes The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring released in 2001, The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers in 2002 and The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King in 2003. It should be kept in concern that till now The Lord of the Rings has been regarded as one of the biggest movie projects ever undertaken, and with an overall budget of $280 million. As the end product of such a gigantic project a total time period of eight years were taken with the filming of all the three films done simultaneously. The entire project was completed in the native land of Peter Jackson, in New Zealand. Indeed the entire trilogy of The Lord of the Rings was a large financial success, with the films attaining the 14th, 7th and 2nd most successful of all time, respectively, unadjusted for inflation. Throughout the international arena the films were critically acclaimed, and bagged 17 Academy Awards in total, which remains beyond the imagination of any other trilogy! Apart from this, the general audience along with the critics had a lot of extolment both for the cast and for the effective implementation of the new-fangled practical and digital special effets. Each film in the trilogy also had Special Extended Editions or SEE, released a year after the theatrical release on DVD. In this respec, it is certainly to be mentioned, that each film is not exactly based on each volume of the book, but rather they represent a three part adaptation, as Jackson takes a more chronological approach to the story, whilst Tolkien retold chunks of his fictional history.

The principal photography of all the three films of The Lord of the Rings – The Motion Picture Trilogy was conducted concurrently in New Zealand from October, 1999 to December 22, 2000 for 274 days at a stretch. While the pick-up shots were conducted on every year from 2001 to 2004, the trilogy was shot in seven different units shooting, as well as soundstages around Wellington and Queenstown.
