Added: 10/15/2007

Theft identity use to be something you would be scared of, if you lost your wallet or Social Security number. Even though that is still true, there are even more ways you have to look out for theft identity today. This is because so many people store their personal information online and on their computer. If a hacker gets in, they can take all your information and get you in some big trouble. By following a few safety tips, you can help avoid this at all cost, and stay safe all the time.

Because there are some many hackers in the world today, theft identity is on the rise. This is bad news for people like me and you. Although it is against the law to steal someones identity, most people are willing to take that chance. This is because they can steal a lot of money from you if they get your identity, and they can also wreck your credit. Sometimes you can get the charges reversed but what if you can not? What happens to you and your credit? It gets drugged through the mud, that is what happens. So the best way to make sure that theft identity does not happen to you, is to keep your information safe at all times. This goes for being online or out in the real world. You can never trust anyone, and you have to keep your information safe all the time. So I am going to give you a few safety tips to help you keep this from happening.

To keep theft identity from happening, you have to be on your toes all the time. First things first, never throw away important information without cutting it up first. Some people want your information so bad that they will go through the trash to have it. This is what we call dumpster diving, and as nasty as it sounds, people do this all the time. Many people have been a victim of theft identity because of it. Also people can steal your information by picking your pockets. I know that sounds like something that may only happen in the movies, but theft identity can and will happen this way in real life. The best way to avoid this is to keep your pockets buttoned. Also if someone bumps into you on the street, always check to make sure you still have your wallet. Do not wait to do this, because it may be to late. The person that took it could already be gone. Try to avoid talking about your personal information in a public place. Many people try to use eavesdropping as a way of theft identity. You would be surprised what people will say in public not thinking about it. One slip of the tongue and you could be out a lot of money. As far as online theft identity goes, you need to look out for hackers. They can take your information by installing viruses and spyware onto your computer. By doing this they can track what you are doing and steal your personal information. This can be just as bad if not worse than stealing your information in the real world.

Theft identity is a real issue in this day and age. We have to find ways to keep us protected form these dangers. These are issues that are not going away so we have to be able to find ways to handle it and not let the hackers take control. If they get a hold of our information then we are going to be out a lot of money. The best thing we can do, is keep our information safe by following the tips that I listed above. By following these tips you could actually be saving your money as well as your credit. Someone once told me that all you have is your credit, that is the one thing people take at face value. So if we let someone mess that up for us, then we are letting them mess up the one thing that people judge us by. Your credit is a hard thing to get built up, do not let someone just take it away from you.
