Living Single, Omaha StyleFor people who are single, Omaha can be a great place to be, although there are some challenges. To begin with, Omaha is a small city, just about 400,000 people. People in the area tend to marry young and a conservative attitude insures that throughout much of Omaha, sex is a taboo topic. Thanks to several colleges and a robust local economy, however, it is easier than ever here to be single. Omaha offers something for every taste, whether it is dancing, music, gambling, or sporting activities.
There may be no better small city to be in if you enjoy music and hope to meet people who share your passion. The recent success of Bright Eyes and Saddle Creek records has given the local music scene national attention. For those who are single, Omaha's many music venues offer wide varieties of music, so whether you are looking to meet a punk girl or a country guy, there is something for you in Omaha. Some of the more popular local venues include the Sokol, Mick's Music and Bar, and Chez Paree. For a more laid back and sober atmosphere, look for the shows at Common Grounds Coffeehouse.
There are also many dance clubs in Omaha. Sex seems to be the main reason why these places exist; the dancing just an easy way to meet people to possibly take home or get a phone number from. Just across the river in Council Bluffs, Iowa, river boat gambling opportunities are available. It is high-limit gaming so make sure to bring your ID and plenty of cash. The casinos have poker, roulette, blackjack and other table games as well as slot machines. Most also have dance clubs, concerts, restaurants and other types of entertainment for the over-21 crowd. For singles, playing blackjack next to that really hot guy or sliding up to play a few hands of poker next to that sexy girl is a great way to start a conversation and maybe more.
Outdoor and sporting activities abound in the Omaha area if you know where to look for them. Local gyms are a good place to start for those of us who are single. This club caters to upwardly mobile young professionals and is a great place to meet in-shape active people of your preferred gender. The city sponsors a wide variety of recreational teams, including co-ed basketball and volleyball. For the couples, as well as those who are single, Omaha Ski Club organizes several trips to Colorado and Wyoming every winter, as well as pre-trip and post-trip parties.
Overally despite some challenges, Omaha it is great to be single. Omaha and other places like it make it easy and fun to meet new people, for friendship, relationships, or even just for sex. Omaha offers many opportunities for single people to meet and have a lot of fun.
