When the writer of the following article first read about the custom known as wife sharing, she understood the feelings of the author, whose work she was then reading. That was almost forty years ago, well before that same writer had attended college. Having now studied and worked with people from other cultures, a more mature writer has put her ideas into the following reflection.

The lifestyle choice called polygamy started with a man called Joseph Smith, Jr. He would teach the rules of polygamy along with the gospel. Many people, who have followed Mr. Smith, choose polygamy as their way of life. Joseph Smith died and the Mormon's kept up his teachings and practices of polygamy until the year of 1890. The polygamy practice was then abruptly ended officially in doctrine from the Church. It is still being practiced today, through groups which have broken themselves off from the Latter Day Saints and headed by some fundamentalist Mormon groups. The men have been known to refer to their multiple wives as 'our wives'.
