Many people love to go to the movies on their days off from work. Today, movie lovers can either rent movies from their local Blockbuster or they can go to their local movie theater in order to experience the magic of the movies. There are many types of movies to watch and enjoy such as romantic comedies, dramas, and animated movies.
If movie lovers aren’t familiar with the movie called The Seventh Seal then, they could believe that this movie is about a group of seals that reside in the ocean or at Sea World. However, the movie called The Seventh Seal has nothing to do with cute seals. This movie is Swedish, directed by Ingmar Bergman, and takes place in medieval times. It is about the long journey of a medieval knight across a plague filled landscape. The Seventh Seal’s most memorable scene involves the medieval knight playing chess with the personification of Death. The outcome of the chess game will determine whether the medieval knight lives or dies. Movie loves might be interested to know that the Seventh Seal is seen as a masterpiece of cinema. Did you also know that the title the Seventh Seal refers to a passage about the end of the world from the Book of Revelation located in the Bible? Let’s dive a bit deeper in this movie’s plot.
A knight named Antonius Block returns with his squire who is named Jons from the Crusades and finds that his home country of Sweden has been ravaged by the plague. He also discovers that Death wants to see him as well; (talk about having a bad day). In order to buy himself some time, the knight challenges Death to a chess match, which, if he won the chess match he would return to his Swedish home and his wife after ten years away. The movie called the Seventh Seal might be though of as a masterpiece of cinema; however the medieval Sweden portrayed in the movie isn’t totally accurate. But, the Seventh Seal is a good film anyway, please rent the Seventh Seal tonight after returning from Sea World.
