Kwanzaa is a unique holiday. On each of the seven days, people who celebrate this holiday will light a candle. Each candle represents a very different symoloic theme. This upcoming Kwanzaa 2007 will be showcased as all of the other years; with the seven symbols of Kwanzaa being: unity, self-determination, responsibility, cooperative economics, purpose, creativity and faith. These are in the order in which they are celebrated. For example, one the first day of Kwanzaa 2007, unity will be celebrated. On the last day of Kwanzaa 2007, faith will be the focus of the day.
The seven different principles are clearly defined and a true believer in Kwanza will not deviate from these guidelines. They are written specific and are not to be taken out of context or changed in any way.
On the first day of Kwanzaa 2007, Unity will be celebrated and it should be done with the following principle in mind: Unity is to strive for and maintain unity in the family, community, nation and race. This is a wonderful opportunity for families to become close and truly appreciate each other.
On the second day of Kawanzaa 2007, Self-determination will be celebrated. They way in which this is done, is to celebrate self-determination to define ourselves, name ourselves, create for ourselves and speak for ourselves. This is a great lesson to help people define who they are and have pride.
The thried day of Kawanzaa 2007 will bring a day in which a person will focus on the element of responsibility. This is outlined as: to build and maintan our community together and make our brother’s and sisters problems our problem and to solve them together. This is a great way to learn the art of working together collectively and to do so with success.
Kwanzaa 2007 will bring the fourth day of the celebration in which Cooperative Economics is the aspect. The meaning is: a day to build and maintain our own stores, shops and other businesses and to profit from them together. This instills a sense of pride for those who take on the repsonsiblity of being their own boss.
On the fifth day of Kwanzaa 2007 will come the day of Purpose. This day will be al about: to make our collective vocation the building and developing of our community in order to restore our people to their traditional greatness. This means that people should recognize that they must have a goal in life and that they should all work together to help African Americans remember their important ancestry.
With Kwanzaa 2007 almost complete, participants will celebrate Creativity on the sixth day. It is traditional to make handmade gifts and the guideline is: to do always as much as we can, in the way we can, in order to leave our community more beautiful and beneficial than we inherited it. This day is to teach people that with some effort, they can create things and make the world a better place.
Finishing off Kwanzaa 2007 will be the final day, the seventh day. It will celebrate imani, with is Faith, as the principle is: to believe with all our hearts in our people, our parents, our teachers, our leaders and the righteousness and victory of our struggle. This is to maintain conviction that African Americans can go far if they stay together in their beliefs.
