Know the Essentials of Perfect Christmas Parties

The holidays are the most wonderful time of the year, and many a host or hostess strives to make the family gathering special for everyone who attends. Close attention is paid to seating arrangements, decorations, food, and all the other little details that make Christmas such a festive occasion. Unfortunately, Christmas parties also increase the stress level of a host considerably. It is no wonder that some actually see the holiday approaching with trepidation. This is not necessary! On the contrary, with a few easy tips, you will be able to host the perfect party yourself.

Christmas parties come in all shapes and sizes.  There are the office parties, the family gatherings, the large family reunions, and even the school classroom parties.  The needs of each group are different, and the clever host will do well to know the attendees.  For example, will you expect a large number of children or is this mainly an adult occasion?  Will your party be held during lunch hours, in the afternoon, or during dinner time?  The first step in putting together the perfect party is the creation of the guest list.

Once you are done with the guest list, it is time to think about a party theme and the Christmas party invitations.  Successful Christmas parties will have a clear theme that is introduced with the help of the invitations, and then carried through with decorations, games, food, and party favors.  The invitations themselves may come in any number of varieties.  Old fashioned cards may be mailed out.  Taking a clue from the baby shower and bridal shower markets, Christmas invitations are now also printed on candy wrappers and may be handed out.  This is an especially tasty idea for classroom or office parties.

What themes are available for Christmas parties, you ask?  Well, for the families with children there is the cookie party.  Invite your friends and their children over to your house and suggest that each family bring their favorite cookie recipe.  Once you know how many families will come, be sure to stock up on the traditional cookie making ingredients, such as flour, sugar, eggs, mild, butter, baking soda, and baking powder.  You may also want to have red and green food coloring, coco powder, and frosting on hand.  When all are assembled, it is time to roll up the sleeves and roll out the dough!

For those of you who are living in cold climates, you will probably have had your fill of ice and snow by the time the Christmas parties come around.  How about a "July on Christmas" party theme?  Many stores use the "Christmas in July" slogan to advertise some especially good deals, but by turning this idea around, you will be able to have a summer party for the holidays.  You may still want to use the traditional red and green colors, but instead of the snow motive, go with a beach background.  Serve some drinks with little umbrellas in them, and play some Beach Boys music.  If you have the fireplace going, go ahead and make it look like a fire-pit on a tropical island, complete with beach blankets in front of it. The ideas are endless.

Once you have chosen a theme and picked out some Christmas party invitations, you can now go ahead and purchase the decorations that go with your theme. Make sure that you have enough decorations for your entire party area.  Prepare the food with your theme in mind.  In order to forego much of the stress of cooking, timing the pies, and other potential pitfalls, you may wish to consider your local mega mart which will most likely specialize in completed holidays meals with all the trimmings.  Give them a few days notice, and all you will need to do is heat up the food for half an hour.  It does not get much easier, and tastier, than this! When the guests arrive, you will be well rested, and able to enjoy the festivities.  Who said that Christmas parties had to be stressful?
