In 1983, at age 16 and fresh off the decision to drop out of school for acting, Nichole Kidman received a role in the holiday movie Bush Christmas that quickly became an Australian Christmas classic and from that role she began receiving steady work all throughout Australia. Nichole Kidman managed to get an American agent and made her United States debut in the 1989 movie Dead Calm. Dead Calm won her universal praise and even more opportunity to act in the American movies that she had dreamed of being in as a teenager. In 1990 she got lucky twice as she received a prominent role in the American hit movie Days Of Thunder but she was also introduced to Tom Cruise.
After their experience together on Days Of Thunder Nichole Kidman and Tom Cruise began seeing each other and on Christmas Eve in 1990 they were married. They wound having two children together but the 11 year marriage also helped make each of them superstars. It soon became second nature to know who Nichole Kidman and Tom Cruise were even if you had never seen any of their movies. Soon Nichole Kidman's career began to take off and in 2001 she received her first Oscar nomination for her work in Moulin Rouge. But there was so much more going on in her life at that time.
In 1999 Tom Cruise and Nichole Kidman starred in Stanley Kubrick's last film Eyes Wide Shut. Kubrick passed away during filming so Cruise and Kidman took over directing duties and finished the film and dedicated it to Kubrick. But some time before this movie came out there were also rumors circulating that Tom Cruise was gay and that his marriage to Nichole was a cover for his homosexual lifestyle. Cruise and Kidman had hoped that the sexually explicit scenes in the movie would help squash the rumor but for some reason they seemed to make things worse. In 2001 Cruise and Kidman called it quits and the next year Nichole Kidman won the Oscar for her work in the 2002 movie The Hours. She is married to music star Keith Urban now and is making movies for future release.
