While being involved in a photo shoot for a company called French Connection Jason Statham was offered the chance to be in a movie that the company was investing in. To audition for the role in the 1998 movie Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels Jason Statham had to convince the director Guy Ritchie that he could be a black market salesman and sell illegal goods to him. It is rumored that Jason Statham was able to draw on real life experiences to play a convincing con man and he got the role in Lock, Stock And Two Smoking Barrels. The movie did okay financially and critically it was considered a small success with Jason Statham getting positive reviews for his performance. In 2000 he found himself co-starring in the movie Snatch with Hollywood superstar Brad Pitt and Jason Statham was soon on his way. In 2001 he starred in two thrillers the first being Ghosts Of Mars and the second one was with martial arts expert Jet Li in The One and it was his role in The One that lead to Jason Statham’s most famous role.
When Jason Statham did The One he did all of his own stunts including the martial arts scenes and this led directly to his starring role in the 2002 movie The Transporter. The Transporter quietly became a cult favorite movie among martial arts enthusiasts and soon Jason Statham found himself getting bigger and better roles. He finally landed the role that would introduce him to the world as Handsome Rob in the 2003 hit movie The Italian Job. The movie made in excess of $100 Million and helped to put Jason Statham into the higher end of Hollywood actors. He did a sequel to The Transporter in 2005 with Transporter II and this time his Transporter movie made a profit. There is a line of sequels being planned for The Italian Job and there is a good chance that you will be seeing a lot more of Jason Statham for many years to come.
