I can only begin to tell you some of the interesting things you can find in Naperville, IL. Founded in 1831, Naperville, IL is the fourth largest city in Illinois. If you are looking for something to do in Illinois, Naperville has plenty to offer. There are some many beautiful places to visit I can only share a small portion. You will definitely want to take a few days to really enjoy all that Naperville has to offer.
There are at least three places in Naperville, IL you will want to visit. To begin with you can explore the Naperville Park District. This park district was established in 1966. It is 2400 acres of open space and contains 130 parks and sports complexes. There are two 18-hole golf courses Naperbrook Golf Course and Springbrook Golf Course within this park district. There are also two places dedicated to inline skating and skateboarding, one in the Frontier Sports Complex and one in Centennial Park. One of the most exciting places you can visit in Naperville Park District is Centennial Beach. This public aquatic park in Naperville, IL was constructed in an abandoned double quarry along the DuPage River. The beach encompasses six-acres of land and two-acres of open water and a sand beach area. The park is open from Memorial Day until Labor Day each year. Included in this large beach are areas for raft floating, a depth controlled swimming area, and a diving complex. The diving complex contains 2 one-meter springboards and a three-meter springboard.


Another great place to visit in Naperville, IL is the Naperville Riverwalk. You can explore these brick paths, with labyrinth patterns incorporated into the walkway all year round from dawn until midnight. Along this path that runs through the downtown area in Naperville, IL you will find many interesting attractions. The Naperville Riverwalk features numerous flowing fountains, covered bridges and gazebos. As you continue along you may wish to take a detour through the Riverwalk Amphitheater. It is an amphitheater, resembling the ancient Roman coliseums. Even the stage floor is embedded with the labyrinth path. Along the river walk you will also encounter the Celebration 2000 Millennium Wall, shaded seating areas, a cultural center, a picnic pavilion, a large sled hill, paddleboat rides, and a memorial to the victims of the September 11th attack. After all that walking you may choose to take a break at the Riverwalk Eatery.

While in Naperville, IL you may also wish to visit Naper Settlement- Historic Museum Village. It is a 13-acre outdoor museum with 30 historic structures. Among the sites you can view include the Martin-Mitchell Mansion built in 1883 and its original carriage house. Some of the other buildings include the original firehouse built around 1860, a log house from 1843 and the Copenhagen Schoolhouse built in 1840. You will also find the first of the Naperville, IL hotels and taverns the Pre-Emption House. It was built in 1834 it had to be added onto in order to serve as the county courthouse, a market place for monthly horse trading and a sample room for local breweries. This structure also contains a museum store.

These are not the only things you will find in Naper Settlement. You will also be able to see the blacksmith shop it was built around 1860 to create household implements, farm tools, horseshoes and building supplies. This shop is still functioning as is the print shop built around 1880. There is also a stone carver’s shop that was used in the late 19th century to carve hearths, gravestones and fireplace mantels. There are a few buildings not open for touring but with 30 structures within this settlement you can get a good view of this cities original location and history. For the children you can visit the Meeting House. It was an evangelical church and is the oldest religious structure in DuPage County. It is now used for youth programs so that children can learn about history through play activities and hands on experience.


There is so much to experience in Naperville, IL that I cannot possible cover them all. There are at least 4 golf courses in this city as well as numerous nightclubs you might enjoy. Naperville, Illinois also has a comedy club and quite a few places you can go dancing. It does not matter what type of music or dance you prefer you can find it in Naperville.
