How do you know if you have a soulmate? Similar to the theory that "everyone has a twin" elsewhere in the world, many believe that your soulmate is someone that is somehow "connected" to you on a level that no one else could be. How do you go about finding this soulmate? Should you even leave the relationship you're in if you meet someone you believe to be your soulmate?
If you’ve met someone and it “just feels right”, you may feel that you’ve met your soulmate. Is there natural honesty and support? Do you feel like you’ve know this person “forever”? A healthy, passionate soul mate can help you grow and will bring out the best in you. Your soulmate will accept you for who you are and not make you change yourself to suit their needs or wants. Do you enjoy just “hanging out” and not doing really much of anything? You may have found your soulmate. Maybe you didn’t like sports much before, but now that you and your soulmate are spending time together you don’t mind it so much and he doesn’t mind flea market shopping…the two of you may be soul mates.
Maybe you feel that you met and married your soulmate. While many marriages still experience difficult and trying times, two people who feel they are soul mates will not loose the romance and intimacy in their marriage for long. Marrying your soulmate doesn’t guarantee success OR happiness, nor does NOT marrying your soulmate set you up to fail. Marriage is a work in progress and takes constant attention.
Sometimes the discovery of a soul mate is so short lived you may feel cheated. Passing her at the airport as she waits for her plane back to the place you’ve just flown in from the two of you begin to talk. After five minutes, you know she’s the one you’re supposed to be with for the rest of your life. You can tell she feels the same way as the last call for boarding is announced, you struggle to decide how you could possibly keep in contact.
Maybe your life mirrors the images we see in the famous movie “City Of Angels” with Nicholas Cage and Meg Ryan. When you’ve finally discovered that you have a soul mate, you’ve been friends for a long time and then love comes into the picture only to have your soulmate stolen from you by a tragic accident resulting in his or her sudden death. How sad!
If you are looking for your soulmate, don’t ignore the possibility of any other relationship in your life. As in the example above, your soulmate may be someone you already interact with on a daily basis; you just don’t know that he or she is your soulmate yet. Above all, don’t use your soulmate as a scapegoat to leave your marriage. Again, you may already be married to your soulmate. Year’s worth of living together and experiencing life together may just be the recipe for the two of you to develop a soulmate relationship.
