The whole idea about Gay Games is to come up with a sporting event that everyone could be a part of. Unlike a lot of other Olympic sports and other sporting events, there are no qualifying standards to be able to play in the Gay Games. Many people think that you have to be gay, lesbian, or bisexual to be in the Gay Games, but that is where they are wrong about Gay Games. It is for everyone, no matter your sexual orientation. In fact, you see a lot of heterosexual people competing in the games just to help support the Gay Games. Almost every year there is a rise in the amount of people that take part in the Gay Games. There is even a larger number of people who hear more about Gay Games every year. I have never seen or been in the Gay Games, but I do think that it is a good sporting event. I think it is great that everyone is able to be in it. I think it helps us all become one in a world that tries to put us in categories. However, a lot of people do not like the Gay Games just because of the name. They do not take the time to read about it to find out what it is. This is because of the word Gay that is in it. Many people are so scared by that word that they do not see that these are people too. In fact, bisexual women are on the rise in America. This is becoming something that is not turned away by people anymore. In fact, a lot of people think that girl on girl action is hot, and you see it a lot on TV. Because girls have a different type of relationship with each other, girls being bisexual is not as big of a deal as when guys are. Either way the Gay Games has been around for a while, and it is not going anywhere.

The Gay Games came about in 1982 in, where else other than, San Francisco. In the first Gay Games there were about 1,600 people who took part in the games. Now, when you hear about Gay Games you will see that a lot more people are taking part in it. A lot of people from overseas come to take part in the Gay Games. This is because in many countries homosexuality has to remain hidden because it is still illegal. In fact, that this is why a lot of people come to America so they can be the way they want to be. So far there have been seven Gay Games that have been held. However, number eight is on its way and is going to be held in Germany in 2010. The second Gay Games was held also in San Francisco and had 3,500 people in it. After that, it moved to Vancouver in 1990 and had 9,500 people in it. Then in 1994, it was in New York and had over 11,000 people in it. I think you can see that the number goes up a lot every year. The most people that were ever in the Gay Games was in 1998 in Amsterdam where 14,700 people took part in the Gay Games. Since then, the number of people has been holding steady for about eight years at 12,000 people in the games. That is a big increase from the 1,600 in the very first game.

When you are talking about Gay Games you are going to see that a lot of people have never even heard of it. However, as more and more Gay Games get held every 4 years we are starting to see people hear more about Gay Games. I am sure this is something that is not going to go anywhere anytime soon. As time goes on maybe people are going to become more understanding about the Gay Games, and you will see even more people taking part in the games. It is really a sight to see if you have never gone.
