Then, in the middle of their ninth grade year, Julie got her first boyfriend. That was when Jackson realized that he had feelings for Julie, and that he might even love her. How could he tell her? What if Julie didn’t feel the same way? What if she refused to be his friend? His mind raced with questions. He Had heard that love kills friendship, so he didn’t know what to do. They may have stayed friends, but Nathan did lose her on the inside.
There once was a girl named Sally, who grew up next door to a boy named Troy. Sally was five and Troy was seven. Sally’s parents made her go over to his house, and Troy’s parents made him play with her. As they got older, they because the best of friends.
One late night, the summer of their sophomore year of high school, they were watching a movie at Troy’s house and Sally kissed him. She pulled away as soon as it happened and apologized, because she had seen so many shows that showed her that love kills friendship. Then, Troy kissed her back. They were much in love. About five months after word, Sally became very hard to get a hold of. Troy was starting to worry, because he really loved Sally with all his heart.
Then one day Sally called Troy and told him that they needed to talk. She apologized for being hard to reach lately, it’s just that she had something to talk to him about and couldn’t figure out how to say it. Troy was so nervous, scared, and worried all at the same time. Sally told him that she loved someone else, but she still wanted to be friends. Troy was heart broken.
They tried to stay friends, but Troy was unsatisfied. He couldn’t stay just friends because he would always want more. So on Troy’s senior year, he announced that he was going to college in Europe. He had to escape.
Telling your best friend you love them is like playing Russian Roulette with a loaded gun. You could get lucky like Jackson and Julie, you could get hurt like Nathan and Sarah, or you could die like Sally and Troy’s friendship did. Some people say that love kills friendship, but as you can see, that isn’t always true. It’s because of people like Jackson and Julie, that we have hope.
