Is It True That Love Kills Friendship, Or Can It Make One Stronger?

Love, does it kill a friendship or does it take that friendship to the next level? As Ann Landers once said, "Love is friendship that has caught fire". Do great and wonderful things happen when friends turn to lovers like in My Best Friends Wedding and Sweet Home Alabama, or does everything go up in smoke? So, how do you know when to cross that line and create a spark? Once you do, can you ever go back to the way things were or has that bridge been burned beyond repair?
There once was this boy named Jackson and this girl named Julie who grew up on the same street. They met when they were riding the bus on the way to their first day of school, and after that they became the best of friends. They did everything together watched movies, rode bikes, ate ice cream, and caused trouble. When you saw Jackson, you saw Julie right next to him. They stayed best friends all throughout middle school.
Then, in the middle of their ninth grade year, Julie got her first boyfriend. That was when Jackson realized that he had feelings for Julie, and that he might even love her. How could he tell her? What if Julie didn’t feel the same way? What if she refused to be his friend? His mind raced with questions. He Had heard that love kills friendship, so he didn’t know what to do. The only thing he knew was that he had to say something because he couldn’t stand being just Julie’s friend.
Jackson asked Julie to come over to his house that night. He told her everything that was on his mind. Once Jackson was finished, Julie looked into his eyes and told him that she loved him even more. Ever since that night, they have been inseparable.

There once was a boy named Nathan and a lovely little girl named Sarah who met in sixth grade. They met and became best friends. One night after a bad brake up in high school Sarah went over to Nathan’s house. She was heartbroken over her latest relationship and needed a shoulder to cry on. When she was talking to Nathan, she told him that she loved him. Nathan thought about this. He had been best friends with Sally, and she had been a perfect example of when love kills friendship. So, he told her that he loved her very much, as a sister, and didn’t want to loose her by trying to date. Things became awkward between Nathan and Sarah. They may have stayed friends, but Nathan did lose her on the inside.

There once was a girl named Sally, who grew up next door to a boy named Troy. Sally was five and Troy was seven. Sally’s parents made her go over to his house, and Troy’s parents made him play with her. As they got older, they because the best of friends.
One late night, the summer of their sophomore year of high school, they were watching a movie at Troy’s house and Sally kissed him. She pulled away as soon as it happened and apologized, because she had seen so many shows that showed her that love kills friendship. Then, Troy kissed her back. They were much in love. About five months after word, Sally became very hard to get a hold of. Troy was starting to worry, because he really loved Sally with all his heart.
Then one day Sally called Troy and told him that they needed to talk. She apologized for being hard to reach lately, it’s just that she had something to talk to him about and couldn’t figure out how to say it. Troy was so nervous, scared, and worried all at the same time. Sally told him that she loved someone else, but she still wanted to be friends. Troy was heart broken.
They tried to stay friends, but Troy was unsatisfied. He couldn’t stay just friends because he would always want more. So on Troy’s senior year, he announced that he was going to college in Europe. He had to escape.

Telling your best friend you love them is like playing Russian Roulette with a loaded gun. You could get lucky like Jackson and Julie, you could get hurt like Nathan and Sarah, or you could die like Sally and Troy’s friendship did. Some people say that love kills friendship, but as you can see, that isn’t always true. It’s because of people like Jackson and Julie, that we have hope.
