Here are some thoughts on Christian nudism.
•Do not consider the original scene of Eden to be an indication that nudism is the purest form of Christianity. While Adam and Eve were indeed naked before they partook of the blasted fruit, we are living in the time after they did so, and thus they – as we now – scrambled to find clothes. If anything, this Scripture could be seen as the fact that all those who live after the fall from grace – which is everybody – should indeed clothe themselves.
•Aficionados of Christian nudism are quick to point out that it is about enjoying God’s creation and not about sex, sexual attraction, or sexual showing off. While this would hopefully true – especially where Christians are involved – it is also true that having women parade in front of men in the nude will present an enormous temptation to any warm-blooded male. Christianity is the kind of faith that admonishes the adherent to even harness every sinful thought, thus the constant exhibition of nudity may be a sore temptation for the men who are present. The Bible is clear that anything that tempts us to think illicit sexual thoughts should be removed from out presence.
•Christian nudism may also cause you to receive judgmental stares from other members of your congregation – or at least you fear it would, which is why in all likelihood you are not too forthcoming with your vacation plans, right? You might tell your pastor that you are going to a club resort, or maybe mention the name of the island or country where you will be vacationing, but the odds are pretty good that you will not be mentioning that you will be doing so in the nude, because in spite of your bravado that this is all in harmony with God’s will for humankind, you lack the strength of your convictions. Do you notice that this kind of secrecy is decried in Paul’s letter to the Corinthians, wherein he chides them for their divisions and factions? If you believe that something you are doing might require secrecy in front of your brothers and sisters in Christ, is it really worth doing?
So, in light of the foregoing, is Christian nudism truly God-willed, a positive experience, and just something that will bring you closer to God, your brothers and sisters in the faith, and also help you to reach a world that is in need of Christ’s message? The odds are that it is not. As a matter of fact, it may impair your witness to others, will tempt you to keep your life secret from others, and will cause disruptions even in your own family. Some things are best left undone, even if you – personally – think you could handle it.
