East Asian Games are held every four year which were first organized by East Asian Games Association (EAGA) in 1993 for the first time. The East Asian Games are only 15 years old comparative to other sporting events that take place. In order to participate, all athletes must entered by their National Olympic Committee.


The member countries to East Asian Games, the multi-sport event are Guam (United States), Japan, Hong, Kong (China), DPR Korea, Macau (China), Chinese Taipei, People’s Republic of China. Kazakhstan is a former member of EAGA, however since it became a European Olympic Committee member; they do not take part in these Games anymore. This sporting event and competition is only open to East Asian region, although another sporting event takes place known as South East Asian Games for the countries located in South East Asia region.


The list of games included in East Asian Games are Aquatics, Athletics, Badminton (1993, 1997), Basketball, Bowling (exhibition in 1997), Dance sport (2005), Dragon boat racing (2005), Field hockey (2005), Football, Gymnastics, Handball (2001), Judo (1993, 1997, 2001), Karate-do (2005), Rowing (1993, 2005), Shooting (2005), Soft Tennis (since 1997), Taekwondo (since 1997), Tennis (2005), Weightlifting (1997, 2001) and Wushu.

The latest East Asian Games were held in 2005 which was hosted by Macau (China). This event was said to be the biggest sporting event held in Macau since 500 years. That is the reason why the people of Macau made a lot of effort to turn this day into special one. The audiences were lively, cheering and great which gave the athletes more spirit and courage to play their sport. Almost 2,000 athletes and 800 officials will converge on this port city to take part in the fourth edition of the games, to be held from October 29 to November 6. About 500,000 visitors -- mainly from mainland China -- flock to Macau to watch the biggest event. Quoting the statement of Manuel Silverio, chairman of the East Asian Games organizing committee in Macau "We're ready to host the East Asian Games, and after years of hard work and preparation, we believe we will host a game people will remember." The East Asian Games is a multi-sport event that is long waited by every East Asian country as it is not just a sporting event for them but it is the key for all the countries to unite once in every four years. In this competition member countries send their best of the best competitors to East Asian Games for competing. More of these events should be scheduled to bring the world closer while removing all kind of barriers and grudge for each nation.
