Indian Circular Card Games

Added: 10/15/2007

Have you ever heard of games played with Ganjifa? This is a game that is played with Indian circular cards, and they can be very addicting. At one point (when these types of cards first came out) they were played everywhere, but now they are played in only a few select places. This does not mean that these card games are not fun, but many great things get forgot about as new things come about. If you have never played with Indian circular cards then you do not know what you are messing, and I think you should give it a try.

When you play with Ganjifa, it works a lot like normal cards that we are use to today. One thing that is different, however, is the shape of the cards themselves. These cards are Indian circular cards that are very fun to play with ( and very different looking if you have never seen them before). The deck of cards is pretty much set up like a normal deck but these Indian circular cards have a lot more cards in them. First, all of these decks have 12 cards of different suits. These suits have two face cards and 10 number cards which are referred to as pip cards. The two face cards are called the king and the minister. Of course, the pip cards are number one through ten. As you can see the Indian circular cards are already much different than ours (because we have three face cards which are the king, queen, and jack). Our decks only have four suits and 14 different cards (which comes to 52 cards total). The Indian circular decks have between 8 to 12 different suits, depending on the deck you buy. With that many suits and 12 different types of cards, you get a total 96 to 144 cards per deck. That is a lot of cards. Of course, I have not told you the coolest part of these cards yet. Most Indian circular cards are hand painted, so each deck has its own look. I think that is pretty cool myself, its something you do not see much of anymore.

There are many different type of Ganjifa games that you can play with Indian circular cards. However, these cards are not very common any more so it is hard to find out how to play these types of cards. Two of the most talked about Ganjifa card games are Ekrang and Hamrang. Both of these Indian circular card games are trick taking games (just like if you where playing hearts or spades with normal cards) but there is no trump card. Each card is just worth its face value. Many people have a hard time playing these types of card games because there are very strict rules about what cards can be led and what you can play on a trick. Also, another thing to remember (no pun intended), you need to have amazing memory to play these card games because of the large number of cards that are being played with. This makes wining the game very hard. Some would say that wining is more a sign of luck then anything else. They say that because it is very hard to keep up with 144 different cards and who has them. When playing these card games, the face cards are always the highest. Many people today have tried to use Indian circular cards in games we know today. One game that has been played with these cards is poker, however it is a little different than the way we play poker.

Playing a new game is always fun. Also with such a big deck, it is possible for everyone to get involved when playing these games. Indian circular cards are something the whole family can enjoy together. The only problem you are going to run into is finding some, and if you do find some its still going to be hard to find out how to play the games. Of course, the internet can help you in your search for these cards, as well as some different types of games you can play.
