Before World War II, the females living in the town of Fontana, California had found little reason to expect that they would find the "man of their dreams" in that small city. Then life was dull if you were in Fontana, especially if you were female and single. Fontana today, however, offers any young female a very different setting, and a very different typical lifestyle. Gone are the days when life in Fontana could be considered dull and boring.
During World War II the Henry J. Kaiser Company built a steel mill in Fonatana. As that steel mill rose up there at the intersection of Route 66 and Route 30, one thought no doubt passed through the minds of every local single. Fontana, they no doubt thought, would never be an exciting place for females. How could a female become excited about a steel mill?
What those women could not know was that the duration of that steel mill would never be long. The fortunes of the steel mill would decline, and the mill owner would be offered a chance to sell a part of the land on which the mill had been built. The purchaser of that land added a touch of excitement to the life of anyone in the area who was female and single. Fontana was on its way to becoming the home of the California Speedway.
That's how the citrus orchards and cattle ranches of San Bernardino County, at least those that had existed in Fontana, became replaced by two large racetracks-the California Speedway and the California Dragway. That's when new events enlivened the life of every local single. Fontana became the sight of two annual NASCAR Nextel Cup events. On those occasions the females of Fontana had many opportunities to meet and talk with single men. They suddenly found it much easier to meet the "man of their dreams."
Of course there were drawbacks to living in Fontana. Migration into the area of many people from southern and Midwestern states caused the introduction of a nickname for Fontana. The nickname did not please the local girls. Fontana had become known as "Fontucky."
And one other development complicated the life of some of the local girls. Fontana became the location for the formation of the Hells Angels Motorcycle Gang. Those Gang members were not every girl's image of the "dream date," and so the Gang members did not appeal to every local single. Fontana fortunately had other offerings, elements that helped to overcome its less pleasant qualities.
Fontana was home to the International School of Theology. Why was this important to any local single? Fontana offered easy access to someone who could marry a dating couple. Therefore a female in Fontana did not have to look far for a way to hook-up with the "man of her dreams." Moreover, once the happy pair had chosen their special day, the bride-to-be would not have to look far for help with her make-up. She could simply appeal to one or more students at Richards Beauty College, another educational institution located in Fonatana.
Life in Fontana, California has now become much improved over what it was before.
