The traditional carving of the pumpkin is one that has been upheld for decades. It is an exciting, yet simple activity that can be enjoyed by members of the entire family. The entire process of carving your scary pumpkin is quick and enjoyable.
Before attempting to carve your scary pumpkin, it is essential that you acquire all of the necessary equipment and supplies. Such supplies would include a moderately sized carving knife, a black permanent marker, a plastic bag, and of course, a pumpkin. The size of the pumpkin that is selected can vary depending on the desired effect. For a larger scary pumpkin, it might be beneficial to use a larger carving knife.
Once the supplies have been gathered, the next step is to draw the face on the pumpkin. By using the black magic marker, simply draw and outline of the eyes, nose, and mouth of the pumpkin. Many people choose to draw two triangles for the eyes, one triangle for the nose, and a half of a sphere shaped mouth. However, it is entirely up to the carver of the scary pumpkin to determine how they’d like their pumpkin to look.
Once the face has been drawn onto the pumpkin, the next step is to remove the inside of the pumpkin. This can easily be done by slicing off the very top of the pumpkin, just below where the root ends. Once this is achieved, simply reach in and pull out the seeds and gook of the pumpkin. Rinse the pumpkin out and ensure that it is fully cleaned to prevent rotting.
Now that the pumpkin has been cleaned, you may begin the actual carving. To carve your scary pumpkin, simply follow the drawing you created with the permanent marker. This can be done by slicing through the lines on the pumpkin. After this is done, push out each shape and remove it from inside of the pumpkin. Continue this process for each eye, nose, and mouth. Many people choose to place a lit candle inside of the pumpkin. This will create a glow that emanates from your scary pumpkin.
Finally, you’re scary pumpkin has been successfully carved. Now you can place it outside to intrigue happy trick or treators, or place it in your kitchen as a decoration perhaps with a candle in the inside to set of an eerie Halloween like glow.
