How many times have you been to a dull party? You wouldn’t want that for your party would you? A great way to nip that problem right in the bud would be to play silent charades. It is a game that everyone can play, no matter your age. It’s not only great for parties, but it can be played at cookouts, church functions, and family reunions, anywhere you can find a group of people.
It is very easy to play silent charades. The day before you decide to play, you come up with different topics, like movie titles, books, people, animals, etcetera, and you put them into a hat. You need is at least four people to play. To play silent charades, you split into two teams. One team goes at a time. Next, you flip a coin to see who goes first. After you split up into teams and are ready to play silent charades, you bring out the hat. One person draws a topic out of the hat. That person tells a score keeper from the other team what the topic is. The purpose to play silent charades is to get your team mates to guess what your topic is, but like every game there is a catch. The catch is that you cannot speak. You must act out the topic and get your team to guess what it is. To make things worse you have a time limit. You get about five minutes per topic. If your team can guess what the topic is, you win a point. If your team cannot guess what the topic is in the allotted amount of time, the other team has an option to answer.
When you play silent charades you can play to a certain amount of points, or you can play until you run out of topics.
Like sign language, silent charades has many hand signals that mean certain things. When you point your ear it means sounds like. When you take your hand and spin it in a circle to the side of your other hand like you’re cranking something, it means movie or movie title. Also when you put your hands together with the sides of your palms touching and open them up, it means book, or book title. At the beginning when you hold up an amount of fingers it means that many words. After that you hold up a number one, and show how many syllables with your other hand. There are many other hand gestures that you can learn.
You can play silent charades with a board game. There are Disney ® charades that come with a board, game pieces, dice, and cards with topics. The topics range from movies, characters, songs, and books.

The best way to play silent charades is a group of at least ten people. The more people the merryer. can get really funny, too. Watching people act out things like A Walk to Remember, The Lion King, or a broken leg. Even if it is really funny, you have to pay attention if you want to win the game. It’s something that is fun for everyone, the spectators and the actual players. It’s a great thing for everyone! And you will really enjoy it.
I personally love to play silent charades. It is great for any occasion. We play on the weekends, at church fellowships, and on vacation.
