The Juneteenth celebration, which falls on June 19th, is a very old and historic holiday that celebrates slavery coming to an end in the U.S. On June 19th, in the year 1865, Union soldiers whose leader was Major General Gordon Granger arrived in the Texas City of Galveston, bringing with them the wonderful news that the end of the war had come. And those who were slaves now could live their lives with freedom.
