Tubal ligation is a permanent type of birth control. Some people, who either have enough children and want no more, or don't ever want children at all, have this procedure performed. It is a blocking of the fallopian tubes through a very common procedure that is often performed on an outpatient basis.

Some couples choose to limit the size of their family by using the tubal ligation procedure. Because that procedure does not always offer the guarantee of an easy reversal, most couples are told not to request the procedure after the birth of only one child. Most obstetricians think it is better for a couple to use the tubal ligation only after the birth of the second baby.
