When a woman is pregnant they have to be very careful to watch out for their maternal health. They need to have good maternal health to make sure that the baby is nourished properly and that all will be well for childbirth. The mother also has to be taught a lot about infant care. They need to be able to know what to do when they have a baby. With infant care a high priority every mother to be should make sure that they know as much as possible.

A talk by Dr. Virginia Apgar could inspire almost anyone to take a greater interest in infant health. In the early 1970s it inspired one female college student to pursue research on birth defects.
