Go Back in Time With a Wild West Party!

If you're looking for a new theme, throw a wild west party for all of your friends and have a great time! Whether it's a cowboy party for the kids, or a wild party for the adults, a wild west theme is a great way to bring people together and give them something to talk about. From cowboy hats to 'wanted' posters and to spitoons, go all out and make the fantasy a reality! For tips on creating a memorable wild west party, read on!

What is a Wild West party? Just what it sounds like-a party with a theme! It's great fun for kids. Many children love cowboys, and even more than that they love to dress up as cowboys. What better way for a young one to celebrate a birthday or an important day than by letting him or her dress up as their favorite Wild West character and have a party with their friends? It can be a great way to let the kids have fun, and you can even make it educational for them by taking the opportunity to teach them about real Wild West culture. Do they know how long ago people rode around on horses and cowboys roamed the streets? Do they know what it was like to live in a small town in the pioneer west?  Having a Wild West party can be a great chance to show them a little about this colorful and adventurous period in American history-and make it fun, too!

As with any theme party, it's important to keep the theme consistent as much as possible, from the food that you serve to the music that you play. If you can find plates and cups with cowboys, horses, or prairie scenes printed on them, use those! Don't let any detail go unnoticed. The children will thank you for it! If you're inviting a bunch of people, you have a choice of either letting the guests bring their own costumes, or you can try to provide certain items for everyone. Cowboy hats for boys and bonnets for the girls should be at the top of the list, of course. If you can find boots that will fit everyone, that is another great way to keep the theme of the Wild West party consistent. Boys will be best in chaps or at least blue jeans. Girls should wear long, billowy dresses. Do a little research online or at your local library to find pictures, and make your own judgment call on what you think is important.

Plastic guns are an option, depending on how you or other parents feel about letting their children play with them. It's important to let the other parents know if you are planning on providing toy guns, and listen to them if they request that you forego the firearms. The most important part of a good Wild West party is the fun, not the authenticity. Lastly, don't forget to have a camera on hand to capture some of those wild party pictures! When kids dress up, they tend to get into some wonderful photo opportunities!

Of course, a Wild West party doesn't have to be for kids only. Adults enjoyed themed parties all the time, and a Wild West party can be appropriate for them, as well. Besides bringing toy guns, there are other options that adults have in their costumes that you won't find at a children's party. Again, try to make the theme consistent in everything that you do. Although you don't have to try to teach the adults anything about the real Wild West, everyone will have a better time if they can really lose themselves in the fantasy. The more trouble you go to making everything themed, the more memorable the party will be. As with the kids party, don't forget the camera!

If you have alcohol at your adult Wild West party, you're sure to get more than a few wild party pictures to use as blackmail later! Just kidding. The most important thing is to just have fun. It's a party, after all!
