Get going with the pen friend culture

Pen friends are people who write to each other constantly and keep in touch with each other. Usually, the friendship starts without knowing each other and develops as they start corresponding through mails and letters. This actually serves as a great platform for people who are introverts and feel shy to go out and make lots of friends. Also, many other people consider this habit healthy as it develops a community of like-minded people. If that doesn't sound interesting, read on to find out what it is all about and how it turned out into such a big phenomenon.
When started, the pen friend community was focused on reading and writing in a foreign language, in order to learn a new language. People who got involved were interested in reading, writing, and understanding new languages and tried to learn more about something they didn’t know. Slowly, it started changing and now most of the people come into the realm of pen friendship looking to make new friends, long-term commitments, and live-in partners.
Another change that took over in the area of pen friendship is the option of emails instead of letters or snail mails. Earlier, people used to write letters and correspond through snail mails and it held a very important place as far as pen friends were concerned. They were usually excited to write in a new language and were equally thrilled to see their name in the envelopes, very neatly typed or written. But as times have changed, the good old letter has been replaced with the ubiquitous email. Now pen friends exchange email ids with each other and mail each other on a regular basis.
Now, although a section of people is not buying the concept of emails instead of letters, a vast majority of pen friend community do agree that emails are easier, faster, and simpler to communicate among themselves. First of all, emails are very easy to send and receive, and they are very fast. You can send a mail and receive a reply in a matter of minutes, unlike snail mail which usually takes days together, or even weeks in case of air mails. Emails are very easy to handle and easier to store. But in spite of all these reasons, there is a healthy section of pen friend community which is still into the good old method of corresponding through snail mails and envelopes.
A large number of people join the pen friend community in search of friends, partners, or even soul mates. A reason could be the hectic lifestyle that leads people to seek solace from the virtual world, since they have absolutely no time to go out, meet new people, and make friends with them. Pen pal communities are usually very proactive and people find it extremely comfortable to merge into one. There are a lot of people who come looking for new friends and they soon start finding their choice. Since the community is usually large, the choices are aplenty and you can easily spot a like-minded guy or girl. Sometimes, people also look out for partners and soul mates and they succeed too. Many a times, people who started out as pen friends have gone on to have a serious, committed relationship and have ultimately got married.
Pen friend community can be roughly divided into two types, namely free and subscription based. While the free community doesn’t charge people to join and make use of the services, the subscription based community usually asks for a registration fee to get people registered. The free pen friend community usually generates its income from various ads. It doesn’t have a moderator and almost everyone who wants can become a member. In case of a subscription based pen friend community, there is a registration fee and it also has a moderator who will be approving the profiles of the persons who have submitted for approval. It doesn’t have ads and the services are a bit more professional.
