Fun Musical Chairs: The Best Time One Can Have with a Chair, Music and Children

Added: 11/26/2005

There are many games from childhood that people still love as adults. One of the best games is a round of fun musical chairs. All it takes is a chair, music, and children (of all ages). Once the music starts, the good times begin. Musical chairs find some individuals recalling fond memories and other individuals creating new ones. Either way, musical chairs is a classic game that should be remembered for special events.

As a child, there are certain things that stick out in our memories. Certain holidays, special events and parties make impressions that last for a lifetime. What makes these events special are the activities and games that are played at these special occasions.

When it comes to great party games for children, or great games that can be enjoyed any time, it is hard to beat one of the traditional favorites; musical chairs. This is a game that no matter what the age, it is still fun. Musical chairs provides everyone with a chance to move around, get a few laughs, and most importantly to be the last one sitting in the one remaining chair. Music is played and a good time is had by all.

How does one play a game of fun musical chairs? It is fairly simple. There are two things absolutely necessary for the game. The first one is a chair. Music is the second. The number of chairs necessary is dependent on the number of people playing. Any type of music will work and make the game fun. Musical chairs is simple by nature allowing individuals of any age to enjoy.

The rules of the game are very basic. To set up, each person playing has a chair. Music is not yet playing. Take each of the chairs and line them up back to back so that they form a double line. Take away one chair. Music is still not playing. Everyone stands around the chairs so that they form a circle. The game of fun musical chairs is about to begin. As soon as everyone is standing around a chair, music begins to play.

Everyone walks around the chairs, and continues to do so until the music stops. Once the music stops, the fun really begins. Everyone must make a mad dash to sit in a chair. Music stops until each person is sitting. However, because there is one less chair than there are people, someone will remain standing. That person is out.

Once the person who is out has removed themselves from the circle, there needs to be the removal of another chair. Music again begins to play and everyone moves around the circle of chairs. Once again the music stops, everyone scrambles for a chair, and another individual is left standing. This continues until there are only two people left, and only one chair. Music begins for the final time, and upon its end, the person who finds their way into the lone chair becomes the winner.

There is no doubting that fun musical chairs is a great game. Children get so excited for the music to begin. They cautiously move around the circle of chairs trying to plot just how they are going to slide onto a chair. One will notice how slowly they move when they are in front of a chair, and how quickly they move when they are between chairs. No matter how much a child may think they have found the perfect way to get to a chair, music turns off and it is a mad scramble for any place to sit.

For those individuals who don't like the idea of a "winner" in children's games, there is an alternative version of musical chairs. In this version of the game, one chair is eliminated, but all of the players remain in each round. Each of the  players have to sit down on the remaining seats. The twist is that their feet must not touch the floor. This is another fun musical chairs game that provides a slightly different mindset, but employs an equal amount of laughs and enjoyment.

Whichever version of fun musical chairs one chooses, a good time will be had by all. Both of these games provide lasting memories for children, and smiles and enjoyment for everyone who participates.
