Most such activities take place in weather that deserves to be called ideal.

Until 2006, few of the citizens in Santa Barbara considered the Carpenteria Salt Marsh an important piece of Santa Barbara real estate. Then a group of scientists from the University of California in Santa Barbara (UCSB) released the results of a study, a study conducted at Santa Barbara's Salt Marsh. That study had uncovered evidence that parasites play an important part in the food web. The study findings appeared in an issue of Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

Members of the UCSB faculty received other honors in 2006. Shuji Nakamura got a Millennium Technology Prize. He had earned that award by inventing both a blue laser diode and diodes that could produce blue, white and green light. Maybe those new lights will be used at one of the many performances scheduled to take place within Santa Barbara.
