Friendships Between Single York Residents of The Opposite Sex

Heterosexual York singles often build close, lasting friendships with members of the opposite sex. However, these friendships can often face complications when outside pressure to date each other rears becomes too strong to ignore, or when one but not both of you wants to pursue a romantic relationship together. As a single York resident it is quite possible to pursue happy platonic friendships with members of the opposite sex, but it is quite likely that you will have to face one or both of these situations at some point.

Being a single York, Pennsylvania is home to is not easy for a variety of reasons, but one of the primary issues you may have to face as a single York resident is the complications that can arise from friendships with singles of the opposite sex.  There are two major problems that can come up between you as a single York resident and York singles of the opposite sex who are your friends.  Neither of these issues are easily solved or avoided, but there are some things that you can do minimize the risk of and damage from these common pitfalls of opposite gender friendships among York singles.

One major problem that occurs between York singles of the opposites sex who try to maintain a platonic friendship is outside pressure to pursue a romantic partnership together.  If you are a single York woman who gets along will with a single York male friend, chances are that your other friends or your relatives will notice that you spend a lot of time with this person.  In and of itself, this is hardly a bad thing, as friendships can offer some of the richest treasures that life has to offer.  However, when your friends and family are busy scanning their address books to find you the perfect romantic partner, they may have a sudden, misguided epiphany which leads them to believe that you and your single York friend of the opposite sex would be a great couple.

Of course, in a few situations, a lasting love affair can grow out of a friendship, but in most cases people need very different qualities in their friends than they need in their romantic partners.  It is important to ignore pressure from outside sources that may be pushing you and your single York friend of the opposite sex closer together than either of you really want to be.  After all, nobody really knows what is romantically best for you better than you do, so if your impulse is not to pursue a romantic relationship with a friend of the opposite sex, do not let any outside arguments talk you into going on a date with him or her, no matter how convincing or sensible the cases your family or friends present.

The other major problem that sometimes comes up in a friendship between heterosexual single York residents who are friends with members of the opposite sex is that either you or your friend may want to pursue a relationship, but you do not both agree that this is a good idea.  In some cases, a friendship can survive this situation if you are able to talk lightly and maturely about the situation and diffuse the tension.  However, in many cases one person or the other will not want to pursue a romantic relationship, but will want their friend to be happy so they will try and date them anyway.  This almost always ends in disaster, broken hearts, and a broken friendship.

If you want to date your single York friend of the opposite sex, bring up your feelings in a light, playful way which does not pressure your friend to say yes to a romantic relationship.  If they say yes, take things slowly to avoid making any mistakes that you cannot take back.  If they say no, respect their opinion and do your best to move on to other romantic prospects.
