Fraud: What It Is And How To Protect YourselfFraud can happen to anyone by anyone and the two biggest threats are insurance fraud and credit card fraud so you need to know how to protect yourself from falling victim to it on the internet or in everyday life. Insurance fraud.
Insurance fraud is the act of someone intentionally lying to claim on an insurance policy. It's actually surprising just how many people do it and get away with it. Most of these setups are done on unsuspecting victims who are then left with serious dilemmas like higher premiums, no coverage at all or even a lawsuit. Such fraud can even come from agencies and businesses. Some of the major insurance fraud dilemmas are health cover, set up car accidents, workers compensation and anything else you could think about. Be aware and take precautions so you don't fall victim to such fraud.
Protection/prevention methods.
Businesses - before you buy or take out an insurance policy make sure that the company is registered in your country, never pay out money to a sales person try and make it out to the company, read all the contracts and know exactly what you are getting, get copies of all signed forms, never go with a policy if you feel uncomfortable, make sure you do a little research to make sure the company is legit especially if you have never heard of them before, get a second opinion on anything you are not sure about .
Personal/civilian - watch out for set ups especially if it involves any sort of accidents, always keep a camera and a pad and pen with you so if you are involved in an accident you can get everyone name's who were involved, their injuries and extant of the damage. Call the police immediately and watch their reactions before and after the police have arrived. Use only lawyers and other services you trust and not one that they suggest, watch out for wittiness' as some may be set up, get all accident reports and if you are not in an accident but see one get involved and help, take names, numbers, talk to the police and so forth.
Credit card fraud.
This sort of fraud is the act of credit cards being used in an unauthorized or illegal manner to purchase a product. It can happen to anyone both offline and online and the claim rates are growing by the day, don't fall victim to such an attack be wise and aware of all your credit card activities and take measures to protect yourself and your information from such fraud.
Protection/Prevention Methods.
Always sign your card as soon as you get it, never provide your card's number to anyone who does not need it or in emails and messages, never leave your credit card out in the open for anyone to see whether or not you trust them. When using your card keep it in view at all times, always use your credit card with a secure service especially while you are online. Always review your credit card's bill and make sure there is no purchases on it that your don't recognize and if you do find one contact your credit card's company straight away. Never lend your credit card to another no matter how much you trust them if need be go with the person and make the transaction yourself. Always destroy your old cards when you receive a new one and always destroy documents that have the number on it. If your card is lost or stolen report it straight away.
Anyone can fall victim to fraud and it happens every single day, the only way to protect yourself against it is to take prevention measures to ensure your safety because no one wants to become a victim of fraud.
