Everything you have heard about being in a frat party is usually true. There are plenty of antics to go around. But they aren't all about drinking all night and meeting different women. They do a lot of community service, raise money for charities, and volunteer in soup kitchens. There are several good reasons to join a frat party. These include the instant community, a lower drop out rate, Community service on your resume, Supportive peers, Networking after graduation, and of course, the famous parties.
Some of these parties are wild and some are very mild. A lot of the parties have had the police called in and some of the members taken to jail. Schools have banned the alcohol use at these functions, but they have a BYOB (Bring Your Own Beer) policy in effect. There are quite a few alcoholic deaths and injuries at these parties. You will also hear about sexual assaults as well. A lot of the people involved in these parties also wind up going off to jail if they are caught giving alcoholic drinks to minors that are new pledges. They also can get in trouble for doing the old contest of who can drink the most alcohol in one sitting. A couple of the pledges have died from alcohol poisoning. You must be very careful about how much you drink and what you are drinking. Some people will take advantage of people in this situation. Watch out for yourself or bring a friend.
To get into a frat party, there are several ways if you weren't invited. Females only need to smile. Males make sure to make friends with members of the fraternity. They say guys should bring a girl with them. Girls should bring lots of friends. Don't go to get drunk. You could find yourself in serious trouble and not even realize it. Bring something to eat or drink with you, this usually gets you in the door. Most first years aren't old enough to drink, so watch out if you are offered some alcohol. Binge drinking is especially dangerous, don't even get involved.
Frat party sex is happening more and more with each wild party. Sexual assaults are climbing on the college campuses. The best way to avoid this is to stay sober. Don't let alcohol mess with your inhibitions. Stay with your friends and watch out for each other. If the party gets sexually violent, get out of there immediately. Always have an escape route planned if you need it. Don't accept drinks from strangers, they could have used the date rape drug in it. Rape is a reportable crime. Save others from joining in the same fate. Use common sense when dealing with the guys. If you just met the guy, he can't possibly be in love with you. Don't let yourself be fooled into a situation you are not comfortable being in. Most importantly, don't allow anyone to isolate you at a party, especially if you don't know them or want to know them any better.
