As far as holidays go Spain is undoubtedly one of the locations where most things required for a relaxing holiday are on offer including great weather. Yet Spain is a staunchly Catholic country and one would be surprised to discover that Naturism in Spain has existed since the late 1970s, so if you're seeking somewhere for an all over tan Spain actually offers a viable solution.

The Spanish Constitutional Charter came into force in 1978 and with it the right to appear nude in public. Naturism in Spain has taken a dramatic swing in its favour since the late 70’s and possibly because the weather is rarely hostile, naturism in Spain today is an increasingly popular activity. Yet progress was never easy and it was not until the late 1980s that appearing in the nude in a public place really became officially sanctioned by the introduction of authorized areas. Even so it was not until 1995 that the penal code was finally changed in line with the ethos of the Charter created in the late 70s, making it today possible to pursue naturism in Spain free of prosecution and in addition there is no need to seek authorization to do so.

Spain is something of a paradox because whilst the elderly population continue the habits of earlier generations, the youth and middle classes have begun to discover the freedom and benefits associated with naturism. Modern lifestyle choices are being made that will likely endure longer than those of previous generations as the benefits become more widely experienced, therefore expect naturism in Spain to become a big attraction to foreigners seeking fabulous weather among individuals who share their mind-set about naturism.

Spain has developed significantly over the past twenty years as a state that no longer lags behind industrially, German investment has ensured this would not happen courtesy of the motor industry to name but one resource that Spain is now recognized around the world. It therefore seems reasonable to expect that Spain will follow many of the other beneficial aspects associated with Western culture including naturism.

Being one of the most favoured holiday destinations in the world for its good weather and white sandy beaches it is little surprising that nudism is being promoted as something that holidaymakers can now take into account when looking for a location that does not restrict public nudity. Topless sunbathing and swimming have been common in Spain for many years now while naturists continue to be developing an accepted presence.

The coastal regions where naturism in Spain is now commonly accepted includes locations along the Costa del Sol such as Costa Natura which teems with offers of seafront apartments at very reasonable prices. Naturism in Spain has even reached Barcelona, Spain’s second largest city. Located on the shores of the Mediterranean, Barcelona offers all the facilities that Westerners expect and more courtesy of the city’s history and culture. The city is buzzing with activity and seems fundamental in assisting help move Spain into the 21st century.

However, although it is true that Spain is developing a less restricted policy towards nudism, it still remains necessary for those actively pursuing naturism to be held responsible for their actions, which includes ensuring that they do not upset the locals.
