In 1993, at age 16, Alicia Silverstone got the lead role as the evil teenager in the movie The Crush. The critics absolutely hated her performance and it came more from a perception of being uncomfortable than anything else but Alicia Silverstone earned accolades from the movie’s target audience which was teenagers and when you can connect with your audience you are destined for good things. She won two MTV movie awards for her performance in The Crush including Best Breakthrough Performance and Best Villain which validated her appeal to the teenage movie going public. Then Alicia Silverstone received recognition from another group that she would later admit she wishes she had never met.
The rock group Aerosmith took a notice of Alicia Silverstone who had to legal emancipate herself from her parents in order to be able to work the long hours needed to make The Crush. Aerosmith offered Alicia Silverstone starring roles in several of their music videos and soon Alicia Silverstone, along with Aerosmith lead singer Steve Tyler’s teenage daughter Liv Tyler, were heating up television screens in Aerosmith videos for songs such as Cryin’ and Crazy. Even though the Aerosmith videos helped to increase her visibility to the teenage audience she was quickly beginning to lay sole ownership to Alicia Silverstone would later admit that she really hates it when people refer to her as the Aerosmith girl. But her music videos would lead her to her mainstream breakthrough movie role only a couple of years later.
In 1995 Alicia Silverstone played the lead role in the hit comedy Clueless and she was firmly established as a mainstream actress in Hollywood. This time the movie was a financial and critical success and it spawned a television series that Alicia Silverstone was not a part of. Her performance in Clueless won her two more MTV movie awards along with other honors and permanently put Alicia Silverstone on the A-list of Hollywood acting talent. Her dedication to acting and her strong work ethic have earned her respect in Hollywood and her refusal to do nude scenes in any of her work have earned her the respect of parents and others that have children that frequent her movies. Alicia Silverstone has her own production company now and she has not had a hit movie in years but she is still doing interesting work and she recently married her boyfriend of 8 years Christopher Jarecki. She has settled into a career that she is satisfied with and is now able to do the sort of work she wants to do as an actress.
