The First Move: Making Eye Contact
Singles flirt up your life now! The easiest way to show someone that you're interested in them is to make eye contact. If you spot an attractive stranger across the room-someone you would like to get to know better-look at them directly in the eyes and try to hold their gaze for at least three seconds. If you're the type who looks away the moment your eyes meet, take heart. Looking someone in the eyes-especially a stranger you find attractive-is a sure-fire way to trigger your body's adrenaline response. Your heart beats faster, your cheeks turn red, and maybe even your hands tremble a bit. Rather than being discouraged, remind yourself that this is just your body's not-so-subtle way of telling you that you are attracted to this person. Your body's animal instincts are revved up and ready to go. Listen to your body! Instead of trying to suppress these instincts, use the energy to put forth a bold and flirty front. Repeat this mantra: singles, flirt up your life now!
Never Underestimate the Power of a Smile
Once you've cast a come-hither glance at your target, you're ready for the next step. Smile! Sounds so simple, doesn't it? If you're naturally outgoing and flirty, this probably comes as second nature for you. But for those of us who are still learning to apply our flirt makeup, eye contact and a sweet, flirty smile can require every ounce of effort and willpower. If you smile at someone, and they smile back, though, you can rest assure it was well worth the effort. And don't forget the singles mantra: singles, flirt up your life!
Chatting It Up
So you've locked eyes and maybe exchanged a few flirty smiles. What next? If you're lucky, your target is flirty or interested enough to cross the room and plop in the empty seat right next to you. If your target seems interested but has not made a move, slowly work your way to their side of the room. If you have any acquaintances in common, ask them to introduce you. If you don't, and you're target is huddled with friends, try to work your way into the conversation. The easiest way to break the ice is through humor. Everyone, both men and women, appreciate a good sense of humor, and a well-timed and clever remark can go a long way to piquing somebody's interest. If you're waiting in line at the post office, for example, make a joke about how long both of you have been waiting. If you're at bar, make a funny comment about how crowded it is, the service, the drinks-anything to get the conversation rolling. If you just happen to be flirting with a co-worker or anyone else you already know, make an 'inside' joke. Comment on the boss, how the copy machine is broken down again-anything the two of you can relate to. The more the two of you seem to have in common, the better your chances of gaining their interest. Repeat after me: singles, flirt up your life!
A Touch Can Say So Much
As you engage your target in conversation, up the ante a little by making physical contact. No, this does not mean you should press their body against theirs (no matter how interested they may seem)! Simply touch their shoulder, brush an imaginary speck off their shoulder. Simple, non-sexual contact unconsciously signals to your target that you are interested, friendly, and open to further flirting.
Don't Take Off Your Flirt Makeup!
If you're not a natural flirt, keep the old adage in mind whenever you're interacting with others: practice makes perfect. Remind yourself that flirting is really just a charming, light-hearted form of communication that doesn't necessarily have to lead anywhere all the time. And don't forget the singles mantra: singles, flirt up your life!
