Religion is one of the things that you can either hate or love, but just can’t ignore. Throughout the history of mankind, the importance of one religion or the other is prevalent and man has always worshipped something or the other in need of some help. It all started with the ancient man looking for some sort of help to survive in those rough conditions and the art of worshipping started there. It slowly transformed and evolved over a long, long period of time and it has resulted in the number of religions we have right now. The issue of feminism always rises when it comes to religions, as there are a number of people who think that women don’t get their due respect in religions. The issue of a feminist religion is always an issue which raises a lot of concern. There is a universal complaint that women don’t get their due respect in religions and to some extent it might sound true if you notice some of the practices followed by some of the major religions in the world. But the superficial meaning of these practices has been interpreted wrongly and there is hardly anyone who goes deep into the meaning of such practices.
What most scholars think of the concept of feminist religion is that it could be possible for all religions to have had a period when men and women were same and equal. But due to the socio economic conditions and changes that took place during the after years, the condition of women in society has been degraded a little bit. There are restrictions in some major religions in the world that women are not supposed to do some rituals which men are supposed to do. Some religions point out to the difference between men and women in terms of their natural cycles and other issues. While some of them have an acceptable, rational explanation behind them, some of them are downright chauvinistic and don’t allow women just because they are women. However, a lot of feminist scholars in the past couple decades have been constantly raising their voices and voicing their opinions in the subject of feminist religion and they seem to have succeeded quite a bit so far. Rationalistic associations all over the world have voiced their opinions against women being treated differently when it comes to religions and they have seconded the opinion of women being equal to men in all aspects, including religion.
The issue of feminist religion is raised by people who think no one should be denied right for any religious ritual based on their sex. Some religions like Zen and Buddhism give equal importance to men and women as those religions are not mostly based on rituals. While all religions respect women and expect men to treat them respectfully, there are some questions which are still left unanswered as far as the issue of feminist religion is concerned. Thanks to the development in science and spirituality in the recent past, the questions are being answered one by one and there are a lot of people who strive to achieve the concept of feminist religion despite the large number of differences that exist today.
