If you visit Delta County in the spring or summer, you will enjoy some of the most comfortable weather in the state. You can camp amongst the beauty of wildflowers and views of the surrounding mountains. There are five different ranges you can view from different areas around the county. Take your golfing equipment, and enjoy either the Deer Creek Golf Course in Cedaredge or Devil’s Thumb Golf Club in Delta. These courses are open year round, so you can enjoy golfing no matter when you visit.
In Delta County you can enjoy stepping back in time to the time of the cowboys. You can get experience working on a real ranch, or saddle up a horse and take a guided tour of the mountain trails. You can watch local rodeos if you would rather not jump on the horse’s back. Pioneer Town or Ft. Uncompahgre are popular places to visit if you want a taste of the history of the area. Be sure to stop at the roadside stands that are prevalent in Delta County, and sample some of the fresh local produce. Cherries, apricots, cherries, apples, and many more fruits and vegetables are grown in the County.
Be sure to bring your camera for your Delta County vacation. You will want to photograph the beautiful nature surrounding you everywhere you go. Paonia State Park has a babbling spring that flows into a stunning mountain reservoir underneath the Ragged Mountains. Paonia State Park is famous for the myriad of wildflowers in the spring. Sweitzer Lake, which is near the town of Delta, is a great place to enjoy water activities, such as boating and water skiing. You can watch some of Colorado’s native waterfowl as well.
Fishing is a popular activity in Delta County, due to the large number of lakes and rivers in the area. Couple excellent fishing with beautiful views and you have paradise for the angler! Be sure to get your fishing license before going out on the lakes. And don’t worry about bringing equipment. You can rent all of the fishing equipment you need while you are in Delta County.
Visiting Delta County in the winter is great as well. There are over four hundred miles of winter activities in the area. Enjoy snow shoeing, skiing, and snowmobiling. There are marked trails, and most of the lodges in the area offer free maps for your convenience. For a great ski vacation, stay at the Powderhorn Resort. Here you can enjoy views of the valley and excellent, challenging slopes. They also have a great restaurant to relax in after the sun goes down.
