Issues on morals, economy, the terrorism threat, the Iraq situation and immigration of illegals were some of the most important issues for the Election Day 2006 voters.
The largest concern on every voters mind was of course, the War going on in Iraq. Exit polls of the Election Day 2006 showed that over 56% of the voters were disapproving of the war situation with Iraq and over 57% were unhappy with the job that President Bush was performing concerning the war also.
Issues on the moral forefront were on measures in ballots for Election Day November. There were the issues surrounding the ban of marriages of the same/sex in some states. In the state of Arizona, voters beat the ban, Idaho, Tennessee, Virginia, Colorado, South Carolina and South Dakota all passed this ban on the same/sex marriage issue.
Abortion was another important issue on morals which was raised. Partial abortion procedures were banned and the bill on this passed by the House, along with a rejection of a state wide ban on abortion by the state of S. Dakota.
Voters on Election Day 2006 also had the issue of immigration on their minds too. A very tough bill on the immigration problems was passed by the House that makes the unlawful presence of another in our Country the commission of a felony. The bill deems also that at the Border of Mexico have more fences constructed around and along the Border to help keep immigrants from passing over undetected into our Country. Employers must also make more strides in the verifying of the legality of the employee’s they hire.
On Election Day 2006, Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger won another graceful term as the Governor of Los Angeles. He won out over Phil Angelides, Democrat.
Mr. Harry Reid was elected the Majority Senate Leader in Washington. Mr. Reid’s Assistant Majority Leader will be Sen. Dick Durbin who is from the state of Illinois.
In Columbus, Ohio, Representative Deborah Pryce won the Re-Election battle, winning out over her opponent, Mary-Jo Kilroy, Democrat. The race was extremely close and a recount had to be ordered, but Deborah Pryce was the victor of this Election Day 2006.
Election Day 2006 along with the coming years for Election Day is a day specifically designated for all voters polls to be open for an election to certain offices by appointed officials of the public. It happens every year on the first Tuesday after the first Monday in November.
Election Day 2006 is a holiday legally in most of our states. Kentucky, Delaware, Maryland, Hawaii, Montana, West Virginia, Ohio, New Jersey and New York are all states that celebrate this as a statewide holiday. Most of these states let employees take some time off of work on Election Day to cast their votes without any reprimanding from their employers or with no cut in their pay also.
For a Federal Election United States government offices of elective officials get taken by balloting on Election Day. This is for terms which will be able to start in the month of January in the year following such as: voting for Vice-President of the United States and the President of the United States, this happens years that are divisible by four evenly. Voting for seats in the United House of Representatives seats, which are voted on every year that is numbered evenly.
Almost all states in the U.S hold their own State Elections on Election Day November too, for some of their offices elect of the School Board, Districts of Special Purpose, and Offices for Municipalities and Counties. In most States and other local offices they also have their local elections on Election Day but the rules vary from state to state.
Remember, the right to vote is important to everyone. We have all worked hard to make our voice be heard in these elections and if you don’t vote then your voice on these offices and issues will not be heard.
