For International adoption, popularity is soaring; not only because of the celebrities who decide to do so, but because of the great need of so many children overseas who are in desperate need of help. In many countries, children are not receiving proper health care and in many situations, children are not even receiving enough food to eat. With proper schooling not even an option in many cases, these children have little hope for having a healthy and successful life. When a couple decides to conduct an international adoption, they are most certainly saving a life.
One aspect that is not always covered is the fact that there are some children who are brought to orphanages, not to be given up, but because the family is unable to supply the correct amount of food to that child. Done out of love, some parents hope to retrieve their child once they are a bit older and feeding them will be easier. In the instance of pop idol Madonna applying for international adoption, some have argued that the child’s father did just that. Some reports suggest that he was unable to care for his baby and wished to have the baby in an orphanage so that he could receive proper milk and baby food. Planning to retrieve his child once he was able to eat regular food, he then found his child was adopted. Although other sources will dispute this is the case, it does bring to mind that theory that this type of situation can indeed happen overseas.
While deciding to opt for international adoption, one will say that children will most certainly be taken from an environment in which they would most likely never receive proper schooling; others will point out the fact that doing so will be taking that child from their homeland and depriving them of their heritage. In instances as this, some say that adoptive parents should ensure that their child is educated as to their heritage and this aspect is not overlooked, as they enjoy life in the United States.
International adoption is a selfless, wonderful act. Saving a child overseas will make an enormous difference in that child’s life. However, on the flip side of the coin, some will debate that there are so many domestic children in need of adoption that they are being overlooked as people flock overseas to choose their child. This, in essence, is true; many children are in need of homes all over the United States. Although most are not living in poverty and they do have access to proper schooling, they nevertheless are in need of love, caring, kindness, compassion and the safety of a real family. Many children have been removed from homes that only offered neglect and they are in need of loving parents.
One reason that international adoption is popular is that it seems easier to adopt a baby, as opposed to adopting older child. Adopting a baby is a wonderful event; however one must keep in mind that child of all ages deserve to be loved. A child of one, five, ten or fifteen years old all need love. International adopters should also keep in mind that all countries will have different rules and waiting periods. It is best to become as knowledgeable as possible regarding a certain countries rules before taking any steps.
